I received an jailbroken iPhone 3G and I am wondering how I set it up to use in the AT&T network service. I don't care about unlocking it to use with other GSM carriers, I am happy using AT&T, I am just unsure of how to do it. Do I just tell AT&T that I received an iPhone as a gift and want to sign up for a contract/plan?

If the iPhone doesn't come with an AT&T SIM card, so would it be best to buy a crappy phone to get the SIM card and sign a contract, the update my contract to include the iPhone data plan and tell AT&T that I got an iphone and want to use it under my contract?

HELP! so confused, just want a jailbroken iphone!!

Get an AT&T plan with a data plan, pop the SIM card in, activate it in iTunes, and it should work. You have to restore it to factory settings and rejailbreak it each time an Apple FW update is released if you want to keep it jailbroken. Or you could just stay on the old firmware. Phones can be jailbroken but not unlocked or jailbroken and unlocked.

(snip) Phones can be jailbroken but not unlocked or jailbroken and unlocked.

Can you please elaborate on this last statement?

Two choices
Jailbroken without unlock

Jailbroken and unlocked (to work on other networks)
