In case any of you missed it, please avoid installing the newest iTunes 8.2 release. Currently, it prevents anyone from using QuickPwn, PwnageTool, and iPhone Tunneling Suite (ssh over usb)
More info can be read here (http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2009/06/02/iphone-devteam-itunes-82-updates-lowlevel-usb-protocol-prevents-jailbreak-prevent-palm-pre-sync/).
I had no problems what so ever jailbreaking and unlocking my 16 GB V1 iphone

Do not install, it will take away your jailbroken options and 8.2 can be very difficult to downgrade back to 8.1!

It isnt too difficult. Back up your Itunes library, then uninstal Itunes completly. Then download and instal 8.1 - then just sync your library back... should be straight forward

This is a lie!
Ive updated to 8.2 and my jailbroken iphone connects syncs and works just fine. MY jailbroken options still work, im able to restore and rejailbreak again. The only thing that ive heard wont work anymore is the ssh over usb which doesnt apply to me since i use wireless.
The major change for 8.2 was to keep Palm from using iTunes like how iPhone/iTouch/iPod's do.
Im on a Mac. The whole 8.2 crap is a lie. MY itouch works just fine and my Iphone syncs just fine, i can move movies/music and do everything like normal...and this has been for quite some time now.
You can believe everything you read. My devices work fine and they're all jailbroken. If i need to make a video of it then i will.

well i guess everyone has there story or opinion...but my opinion is to not install 8.2 just yet, I did install and lost all my jailbroken apps after a few days I was missing the way the itouch use to be. so i tried to uninstall 8.2 and reinstall 8.1...i was offered many ideas on this site and some others and none of them worked. after two days of trying the ipod finally froze or bricked I guess is the term, I brought it back got a new one and am back on 8.1 jailbroken and I will not install 8.2 till the time is right...but hey if you got it work..good for you!

I have currently had no problems with my jailbroken 3G phone - I use Disk Aid to edit my files.

I synced my device last night with no issue. However, I did do a restore on my phone so I'm back to stock now. Performance is always better on stock than on a JB phone.

I am using 8.2 iTunes and have no problems at all with any of my jailbroken functions to include SSH over USB using Total Commander. I have noticed no problems or differences with the new version of iTunes at all.
Then I read that others were having problems uninstalling iTunes 8.2 so I uninstalled it and then installed 8.1.1 and other than having to rename my iTunes Library file 8.1.1 installed fine, opens fine, detects my phone fine, even prompts me that there is a newer version and asks if I want to install it.
I don't know what the problems are that everyone is rumored to be having but I am not seeing any of them.

Are you on Mac or Windows? Maybe that's the difference.

Hey Guys,
I made a big mistake and downloaded iTunes 8.2 - needless to say my jailbroken iPhone no longer synch's with iTunes. I was able to uninstall 8.2 and found a version of 8.1 which I installed successfully. Transferred back all of my music and everything was good. So, I have iTunes 8.1 back on my Mac however I hooked my iPhone up and I am still getting the error message that iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone. Is there anything I can do? Other files that were downloaded with 8.2 that I need to delete? Please help.
Thanks!
Aldo

Try resetting your device and your Mac/PC to see if that helps. If not, you might need to do a restore. You can always update to the newest 3.0, (PM me if you want it) but you won't be able to jailbreak just yet.

v3.0 is available for download right now. This is the official release of it directly from Apple. Here's the EIC thread (http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone-software/its-available-right-now-3-0-a-48865.html) on it.
If you are jailbroken, you'll want to wait a little while (a day or so) until the "official" jailbroken version of it is released.
