A couple of times a day, I get "Cannot Get Mail - The connection to the server failed". When I click ok and then refresh, it checks updated mail and I am receiving email. Why do I keep getting that error message. My iPhone is unlocked and jailbroken.

I suggest you try:
1. Restarting your phone. (Hold home and sleep/wake button until you see an apple logo)
2. deleting your mail account and making it again.
3. Restore as a new phone via iTunes. Also don't update to 8.2 yet as they are saying that it will make your phone harder to jailbreak. Just restore ignoring all messages related to upgrading iTunes. Then set up your mail account again and see if that works. If it does then jailbreak again.
Good luck! I hope it works. I put the list in order of what you should do first.

I get that a lot too... But I have found. That it depends upon who your email is with. If it is a POP Account or IMAP. ..,and if you check your email outside of the phone. Using your personal computer. All these things contribute to this issue. I don't believe deleting and setting it back up will help. Becuase normally a few minutes later you can manually recheck your email and do not get the error.
I can explain more if you want a deeper explanation... I'm a IT guy for a software company and give you all the all whys and hows. ;)

I'm not getting that error as often, but I do get them. Guess I will have to live with it.

Like coop1701 was saying... your problem could be another client program is trying to access your account (POP). For instance, if you use Outlook or Outlook Express and it is set to check for email every 5minutes, 10minutes, etc. then it could cause this issue. The problem is your email provider will only allow one source to login and download emails at a time. So if your Outlook is checking and your iPhone is checking then one is going to pop up with that error message.

that sucks... maybe you should change your password and then update your Outlook and iPhone with the right password. Maybe one of your buddies is hitting your mail. :(

What I had to do was reset all my settings. This solved the issue.

Another symptom I was having is every hour like clock work it does it like 11:00 then 12:000 then 1:00 and last for about 9 mins and I don't have outlook configured for this account at all nothing else is pullin this email but me.
Now I do email alot like probably send 60-70 emails a day I was wondering does the yahoo mail system reset every hour or something is this syst
to make
sure I'm
not spamming? I'm just wondering
It also could be a signal issue. If the signal is switching from WiFi to 3G or from 3G to edge while checking....
My friend was having problems with 3 Exchange accounts and 1 gmail account after he updated to 3.0
He ended up deleting all 4 accounts, and then rebooting and setting them back up again and hasn't had the problem since.
