I am a complete noob with this. I am trying to jailbreak my 3g iphone. Can't get past the first step. I am using 2.2.1, but when I am asked to browse for my IPSW, all I can find is 1,1_2.2, which is not correct.

Can anybody help me?

Sure thing

Download this file (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-5828.20090127.aQLi8/iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw) and browse for it when asked to locate the correct file. iTunes should download this automatically for you and place it in the correct iTunes folder when you choose to do a restore (if it's your first time)

Hope this helps.

I've tried downloading this 3 times now. Everytime I try to browse for 2.2.1, I can only find the 1,1_2.2. I don't understand what Im doing wrong here. I thought this was supposed to be the easy part.

save the downloaded file to your desktop and use it when you browse for the firmware. there's no reason for you to keep having 1,1_2.2 in the list

what are the steps you're taking?
