Beta 5 problems

Hi , i posted this before but it disappeared lol or it's on the old server??
Anyway, my phone is doing strange things today. First it wouldn't let me type the letter Y . I shut it down and turned it back on and still no Y. The Y started working about an hour later. Then It wouldn't slide to power on- tried rebooting but couldn't get it to slide to power off - finally it did power off and then had a hard time sliding to power on. Then i tried to look up a contact and it would not stay in the D's - would jump to K or R. I'm tyring to use my phone now and can't get it to slide to power on??
SO, my question is- when i get home, what should i do. Restore?? and will it restore to beta 5 or 2.2.1?? any advice appreciated.

try and download the ipsw for beta 5 if your a dev or torrent site, put that on and see if it works, if not just go back to 2.2.1 then

Can you access applications in that area of the screen? It still could be a software thing meaning a restore. If you don't have any problems with any keys in landscape or applications, etc. then your touch screen is fine and restoring would probably do it. Just back your phone up then update again to see if that will solve your problem. Maybe updating again will rewrite the area that got messed up. If that doesn't work then restoring is your only hope :frown: And if restoring doesn't work then you are probably going to have to get a genius to look at it, but lets hope it doesn't come to that.

I just finished restoring after backing up. I tested every letter in portrait and landscape mode and everything seem to be working fine again :D

But you don't have problems anywhere else in other applications with the touch screen so it most likely isn't that. But it could be hardware related since restoring didn't help it last for long. I think every store handles being on beta software differently, so I guess it's worth a try taking it to them on 3.0. But here are some links to downgrade and if you continue to have the problem on 2.2.1 then take it to apple on 2.2.1 cause they won't know that you were on 3.0. Also if you have a case try taking it off sometimes cases are too tight and cause problems with the phone.

Thank you very much Iphun, I'll do that when i get home today. It's not just the letters, sometimes i can't slide to open. If it does it on 2.2.1 then it's the phone.

I can't get an appt at any store in NYC till Friday!!!
I'm restoring from my original backup before 3.0 fingers crossed

OK I can't figure out where the FILE I actually restore to is, in the folder that i've downloaded 3 times.
When i click on the folder i see another folder called firmware - click on that and get 2 more folders all_flash and DFU-click on those and get 2 more folders but NOTHING is clickable in either folder. What the hell am i doing wrong???

Which firmware did download that's giving you trouble? Type this into Go to get to all previous firmwares you have used, if you are looking for 2.2.1 that should be there - ~/Library/iTunes

The firmware from the websites in the links that you posted for me. I found the 2.2.1 after typing that into go- i'm going to try to restore to that now. Thanks again

OK that install didn't work and then i had the purple screen and it wouldn't let me restore any version . Now i have the black screen with the USB plug and itunes on it. Itunes is now downloading the official software and hopwfully it will install that. If not, i'm screwed:eek:

Try everything you can think of before you do the below, but your problem probably would need a new phone anyway.

If you get stuck on the black itunes screen just try to restore to 2.2.1 a couple times and if you don't get the purple screen again then take it to an apple store and say you updated to 2.2.1 with itunes 8.1.1, so they don't think there's something wrong with 8.2. Just act stupid and like you don't know about 3.0 and say it prompted you to update to 2.2.1 and you did, now your phone is stuck on the black connect to itunes screen. They will just take it as a hardware problem when their restoring doesn't make a difference and replace the phone.

Try to put beta 5 on in DFU mode until friday. I had a few slide to unlock problems on a beta a while back but it went away with the following release. I can't believe out of three NYC Apple stores there are no spots open. I'm looking at the site now and there's a Staten Island store, I don't know how far that is for you though(and how bad you want your iphone back :wink:)

I am glad to help :smile: If you go in with your phone completely unusable they might give you more attention than someone who just doesn't know how to sync with itunes. Trust me I've seen people who can't figure out how to sync with itunes and they really just don't need and iphone then :tounge:

It's definitely weird and maybe just shows that something hardware related did go bad. As long as they can't get anything on it they won't know that it was on 3.0 and will replace it if it's under warranty. It's good you are using a Mac because you know the results they will get when they try to use it on their Macs. If you have a windows pc you could try to use that to put the software on it, but don't get your hopes up.

I have a PC here but can't be arsed at this point. I've tried for the last 5 hours to get this phone to work and I've had it for the day. i'll stop in the 5th ave store on my way to work. Thanks again, i'll update tomorrow.

I have a new phone LOL there were a few people in the store when I got there so I waited about 30 minutes. They tried to install the software and couldn't . They didn't ask any questions- I told them I was trying to update software .

I can't wait to get home and sync- this phone is naked and i keep trying to do everything in landscape mode lol I'll wait a week and see what they announce as the date for upgrades to 3.0. this UDID is not registered anyway.
