Installing itunes 8?

Phone is two weeks old and reading the jailbreaking process that I must have the itunes 8 installed. Do I need to do this myself or the phone already has it? Where do I verify that I have this version, is it on my phone or my pc? thanks

iTunes is free download from Apple.com and installs on your computer - PC or Mac - and the phone just uses it for it's syncing and backup and suchlike, plus it is used by the iPhone for the jailbreaking process. And it appears that the latest iTunes 8.2 is not compatible with the jailbreaking process.

Well, the phone is under a month old and I will try to exchange it for the new one. I will jailbreak at a later time. Good to know about the iTunes 8 info, thanks
