iTunes won't recognise Remote app

I can't enter my Remote Passcode into iTunes because the passcode entry boxes don't appear when I select my iPhone under 'Devices'. And the icon on the left doesn't change to the Remote symbol. I use the iPhone through WiFi all the time for other things. I've also checked the 'Look for Remotes' in edit:preferences:devices. Any suggestions welcome. I've also tried turning off my firewall. Any help appreciated.

Make sure the Bonjour service is running. This is strictly used for remotes connecting to iTunes.

also, which firewall have you turned off? your computers?

If you still have problems after trying what has been suggested, it may very well be your router's firewall giving you problems.
