As long as its putting out the correct voltage and amps, it shouldn't matter if its aftermarket or not.

How "aftermarket" are we talking here? Did it have a "made for iPod" or "made for iPhone" logo on it?

Adam1389

Just curious too...What are your usage times?

apple718
05-30-2009, 12:05 AM
it has a sticker that says "for iphone 3g"...lol
my usage times are:
Time since last full charge
usage: 0 mins
standby: 0 mins

call time

current period 1 hour 55 mins
lifetime 1 hour 55 mins

cellular network data
sent 8.4MB
recieved 118 MB

i have the phone currently on charge as i read these usage times to you...
should i just keep it on charge even if its full?

Adam1389

It won't hurt anything to keep it plugged in, the phone will cut the charge off when its full. Go as long as you can using the phone like normal and post your usage data here again. There might be a few changes you can make to save your battery life.

stand by 2 hrs 7 mins

call time the same as before

cellular network data

Woah! Your battery should be lasting ALOT longer if you've turned off most of the power hungry features. Try a normal charger or the USB port on your PC/Mac.

Adam1389

With 3G on, Push on, and fetch at 15 minutes, brightness at about 1/4, I am getting about 5 hours of usage, and maybe 8 hours of standby, that gets me down around 10%

so what do you guys/girls say should i buy an original apple charger or should i go to apple store and tell them to fix this problem.

Adam1389
05-30-2009, 01:42 PM
Did you try charging off your USB port on a computer?

apple718
05-30-2009, 02:06 PM
ye i did that before and its the same thing.

Adam1389
05-30-2009, 02:14 PM
Same as with the aftermarket charger? Then it sounds like the charger is fine, your phone battery is in need of replacement. When you go back to the Apple store, tell them you are using an Apple charger this time ;) They won't know the difference.

apple718
05-30-2009, 02:17 PM
lol ok thanks .... he also said he was going to try and restore my factory settings but then asked about the charger...do you think i should restore the phone to factory settings?

Adam1389
05-30-2009, 02:18 PM
Just tell them you have restored it, the guy I talked to kept wanting to, but I told him I did a couple times with no change, he finally checked it off his list of things to do ;) Do a good backup though before you go in

apple718
05-30-2009, 02:21 PM

I ran my battery down last week till it shut off. I got right at 6 hours of usage 1 Day and 13 hours of standby (none of the usage was iPod all of it internet, apps and video) before it shut off. I keep 3G on (even though no 3G network in my area), location services on, wifi on, autobrightness on and bluetooth off. This is average for me. If it's iPod usage I can get alot more.

Why would you want to do that? It's such an awesome feature :)

and well done OP, you should complain to Apple HQ though about that rep, I'm sure he'll get a telling off :)

I can't tell if you're joking or not. Auto-bright doesn't really make a difference in use for me, and if you're outside with it on, it will absolutely crank your brightness to a batter-withering extreme. The irony is that higher brightness really achieves nothing in direct sunlight, where the reflective light will be much stronger than anything the iPhone can churn out.

Neo-Tech
06-03-2009, 11:47 AM
Nope, wasn't joking. Auto-Brightness makes it much easier for me in the sunlight, but that's probably because I am in the UK and the sun isn't as strong.

psylichon

Well, it would be a nice feature if it didn't cause such a strain on the battery. I recently recommended a friend here turn it off, and he got hours of extra usage per charge as a result.
