Exactly as the title suggests. What do you think the resale value will be? I know I'll be getting the new iPhone I just want to know what kind of return I'll have on my current phone or if I should just give it to my girlfriend.

Can you unlock it? Is it a 3G? 8g or 16g?

That's a good question - for both the 2G and 3G models.
I have an 8 gig 2G iPhone in pretty good condition that I will most likely sell once the new iPhone is released. Not sure what the going rate is for that.

A have an unlockable 16g 3G in great condition. If I wind up selling it, I'm not sure what price it would bring, either. I think timing will be very important here.

Why sell it when you can give it to me since I'm iPhone poor?!:tounge:

I have a black 16gb 3G brand new as of yesterday.
What do you mean by unlockable. Aren't they all unlockable? I haven't really followed the whole unlocking thing.

If your iPhone has the 5.09 bootloader (hard-coded into the logic board) and your firmware version is at least 2.2.1, I think you're out of luck as far as a software unlock.

What a brilliant idea!!! :laugh2:
I could give it to my own son, but he probably couldn't afford the monthly plan, and he's pretty much a non-tech, computer-illiterate guy (could he really be my son?).
I'm joking about the paternity part, Josh, so if you ever do figure out how to access a forum and see this, no hard feelings! Love ya! :laugh2:

Indy is my son. I taught him everything he knows.
Anyways i imagine the 3G will hold its value very well just as V1 has done since it can be unlocked to Tmo.

I really have no one to give my 3G to (and don't ask, unless you're family...) , so anything I sell it for will be a bonus and can help offset the $499 I'll probably pay for the new model.

What about if its not unlockable? Do you think ATT will do the same thing as last time? Im thinking they should start letting us activate them at home using iTunes because I cant unlock mine (got it replaced with 2.2.1 already on it) and I know someone who would buy it if he could use it with his plan.
BTW I am your son

If you have the 5.08 bootloader, you can roll back the baseband to 2.28.0, which is unlockable.
I downgraded from 3.0 beta 5 to 2.2.1, then rolled the baseband back to 2.28.0.
BTW - you look nothing like my son...:tounge:

He has more self-respect than that.

Well I'm sure even if it isn't unlockable, it'll still be a breeze to sell. A guy I work with just offered me 200 so I suppose that isn't too bad.

Im unlocked still running 2.2. White 16gig Iphone.
Im hoping to fetch at least $500 for it. (being modest) Some still are going for $800 and up.

What do you think I could get my 16GB black iphone? It's in great condition since I have always used a case on it. I have it on 3.0 so at this point it cannot be unlocked.

I have just sold my 3g black 8gb for £280, however, i sold it because I think the value will drop when the new one is released, if they start selling 8gb 3g's for £99 id be screwed! lol

They are seriously going for that high? Are you looking at eBay (I can't check cause it's blocked at work)? I'm in the same boat as you version and model wise and that would be great if I could sell it for that.

Not really... Yeah the 99 price is cheap, but keep in mind. To have a sim free one is 599 and upwards. So there is still a market.

I remember the fiasco last year when people started selling their phones a month before the new one. And they were no longer eligible to get a new one.

I'm pretty sure that price range ($700) is for the factory unlocked phones purchased outside the US. They're worth more than the software unlocked phones because you don't have to JB for the unlock, never have to worry about them locking, and can always do the FW updates the day they are released.

How can I tell if my 3G has the 5.08 bootloader? I bought it this past November, but had it replaced a couple months ago and am running 2.2.1. Something tells me I am screwed.
If it is, how do I roll the baseband back to 2.28.0 (is that considered the unlock?)

Been watching ebay last couple days. Looks like if the phone can't be unlocked, you will be lucky to get $250. Unlocked phones are going well needless to say.

Theres a lot of people out there that refuse to touch AT&T with someone elses 10 foot pole. If they can get an iPhone on T-mobile they are willing to shell out big. Even the V1 iPhone is rakeing in good money still simply because people dont want the plastic case.

I sold my version 1 last night on Craigslist in about 30 minutes for $300. Did I let it go for to little? It was updates to 3.0 and not unlocked. It paid for my new 3Gs 32gig so I am happy.

Too cheap!? I'd be thrilled if I got that much. The bidding on mine is at $110 (white 3G 16gb).

Just sold my old 8GB Black iPhone, locked to Rogers at OS 3.0 for $250 via Kijiji. Met in person, swapped money for the phone, and left. He didn't ask too many questions about it, literally only asked:
"Works on Rogers SIM?" "Has charger?"
Also, I just sold my iPhone to a dwarf. How freaking cool is that?

I think thats a good deal for you was it the 8 or 16 gb?
I sold my 16gb v1 that I unlocked and jailbroke for $250. I probably could have gotten more but I didnt feel like waiting it out. I am happy since it offset the $299 3gs 32gb nicely.
