to answer your question, i suppose if you are going for the cheap conventional look then go for it, i just wouldn't ever put anything like that in any place of residence i owned or rented. it screams "i don't make enough money to afford nice things".

I don't know your budget or what a nice electronic fireplace would cost but I personally think it looks tacky.

The TV looks great! I would go ahead and mount that on a wall or put it on an entertainment center.

I googled electric fireplace and found some other combos.

Keep searching and do not settle. When you see one you love get it.

Cathy is not too bad looking, and not cheap....i'd do Cathy in my den or living room.
But seriously though, i like the LCD on the wall and not on a shelf or stand, but thats just my taste.

I think that lamp is too classy to go with that fireplace/shelf thing. ;)

To me, it's a case of trying to be/do too much. I do not want a refrigerator that is also a bookshelf. It doesn't make sense. Fireplaces shouldn't have dvd player shelves. It doesn't look right. I've seen some decent looking stand-alone electric fireplaces; they look like standard fireplaces, not like entertainment centers.

You have to get what makes you happy. (Actually, ultimately, you have to do what will make your wife happy.) If you like it and it suits your style, then enjoy it. I probably wouldn't put it in my house even if it was free, but opinions are like noses.. everybody's got one.

Now that you mention it... When the fireplace gets hot wont the place for the dvd player or whatever you put there get very very hot? Almost leading to malfunction? Same goes with anything placed in the sides?

I know its electric and its only blowing warm air, but still?

no it blows the hot air from underneath the unit
plus i did not mention that my intentions are to hang the tv on the wall
so i will mention it now,
my intentions are to hang the tv on the wall
i just needed a place for my cable box and ps3
now looking into other options
maybe i can get a long hdmi cord and cable wire and re route the box
and get a regular fireplace
maybe you can

maybe if i say maybe i may sound crazy but not to lazy while i be dirty dancing like patrick swayze
