Sure you can. I didn't get a fan discount until after I got the 3G,but I remember reading here that people had to cancel the discount-buy the phone- and then add the discount back on their account. Some even did it as they were walking out of the store. I don't know why it has to be this way, but seems it had to be done. I guess we will see if this holds true for the up coming phone.

Foundation account number. It's a discount on your recurring monthly charges that certain employers offer. My employer offers a 14% discount through AT&T. The Sprint discount is even more, 21%. I set my FAN account up at the AT&T store the day I got my phone and the discount was in effect on my first bill.

I set up a FAN account when I found out my college had a discount but AT&T said it doesn't apply to the v1 iphone :(
Hopefully it will work for the 3rd gen.

Doubt it :frown: I am on a FAN through work and FAN accounts restrict any special phones and plans like for iphones. I have a 3g and they won't discount it if it's the primary line. I got away with my primary line being a typical phone with no data plan, and my iphone added a line for $10. All together my iphone only costs me $40 bucks ($10 per line + $30 iphone data) and if you want to count my $30 family unlimited messaging into that. I have 3 lines, 2 iphones and the iphones only cost the per line plus their data plan. FAN accounts take all or most the taxes and fees off of the primary line which is where the taxes are charged to  Well this only helps you if you if you have someone who doesn't need or want an iphone and you can put them as the primary line.

That FAN issue is so stupid as to why you can't buy a iPhone at the Apple store if you have a FAN.... When I got my 3G, I did not have a FAN, but my father's line did and when I added his number to my family plan, it took the FAN with it and screwed everything up. I was at the Apple store for 8 hours on iDay last year for nothing! The worst part was that they (at&t) didn't even know what was going on at first. Somehow, the FAN got burried into my account and wasn't showing up on the tier 1 CSRs computers.... It took almost 2 weeks to straighten it out. I could have just bought my iPhone at an at&t store except for the fact that in my area they were all sold out for WEEKS!!!!

A buddy of mine with a FAN on his account was able to turn it off to get his iPhone at an Apple store, but when he called back to at&t, they wouldn't put it back on over the phone. They said that he had to go back to an at&t store to get the FAN back on EVEN THOUGH there was a note in his account to allow it to be put back on over the phone for this very reason!!!

What a MAJOR PITA these FANs are.....

Gotza, do you know if Best Buy has the same issues with the FAN accounts?

That, I'm not 100% on, but what I was told last year is that only a
corporate at&t store can handle FAN account iPhone sales.... So I would assume that there would be an issue there too.

That was only at Apple stores because Apple couldn't process the orders for business customers and if you get a FAN discount on your acct then you are considered a business customer. Its ok if you buy at an AT&T store, they dont need to remove your discount. Apple doesn't anymore, either, they actually fixed that a month or two after the 3G launch last year.

I wasn't aware of this, but it is great news. The old way was a major PITA.
