Also, is the one from quickpwn.com custom, or is it the original firmware?

I wouldn't trust QuickPwn.com, it's a website that is not official from Dev Team and they are just trying to profit from the name "QuickPwn" which is Dev Team's work.
You can get a custom IPSW from places like ThePirateBay, however, I don't think linking to IPSW's are allowed.

If you have a Mac, you can make your own custom FW with Pwnage Tool,
http://www.modmyi.com/wiki/index.php/PwnageTool_OSX_Usage_Guide_Create_Custom_IPSW

Download Pwnage tool here, http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

I don't know if this helps, but I have my iPhone (for testing) on 2.2.1 with the 2.28.00 baseband via Fuzzyband on my jailbroken system.

Oh. I bought my 3G the day it came out, so I got lucky. I wasn't even thinking of the 5.09 bootloader. Sorry about that.

So your on 2.2 right now and you want to upgrade to 2.2.1? I see no point to be honest, yes there is a difference in Safari, but it's not worth it. If you've already upgraded to 2.2.1 then you've probably lost your unlock for ever.

im in 2.2, and i want to update to 2.2.1 because theres a lot of apps that i have (some bought) that they recently released updates and they are for 2.2.1... it seems they want to force us to update in order to keep using their apps

OK then. I can PM you a link to a custom firmware if you want, but I'll need permission from the moderators first.

Make sure you backup your stuff prior to restore, then restore, install yellowsn0w and smile :)

Use pwnage tool. It'll will update your firmware to 2.2.1 but it wont update your baseband 2.30.

Its a little longer than quickpwn but worth it.
