I have a Motorola S9 bluetooth headset. It seems to work fine when using the 'phone functions of the Iphone, but not at all on other functions, particularly the Ipod function.
I hope I am just missing an easy setting switch. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you using Beta 3 firmware or an adaptor?

Neither. The software is as updated via Itunes and the headset is self contained.

You must be using firmware for the iPhone to work!
Is it 2.x or 3.x beta?
If it's 2.x then you'll need an adaptor to use with iPod stereo and use the controls. Otherwise you're stuck with mono and using it for the phone only.
Here's an example of an adaptor (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-TMRBT81P-iPod-Bluetooth-Adaptor/dp/B0015CWP1E/ref=dp_cp_ob_ce_image_0). The iPhone won't stream bluetooth stereo without on until 3.0 is released.
There are plenty of posts on pairing and using this with an adaptor in the bluetooth section of the forum, and it works great.
If you're using 3.x beta then you won't need an adaptor but Apple may not yet have fully implemented the A2DP into the firmware so the controls may not work as expected.

version 2.2.1.
I am not interested in spending that much for an adaptor. I'll wait for the firmware update.
Thanks for your help

Thanks for te reply, but I'm really not interested. I rarely use the Ipod function as is and it sounds like the "fix" may come with the next software update.

Anyone knows how the S9 works with the iPhone 3G with 3.0?
The price is pretty good. I want to be able to listen to music and take phone calls. Fast forwarding or pausing would be nice, but not totally necessary.

Hi,
I have the s9 working with firmware 3.0 on my iPhone 3G.
The volume control works, pause and play, and the answer.
The track forward and back does not seem to work (just beeps but nothing happens).
Also, when on the phone it is mono (only in one ear piece).
Hope this helps, let me know if you want any more info.
Cheers,
Doug.

Can anyone else review these? Need the dual functionality and these seem great.
Yes, they are great and being able to connect to 2 devices is cool.
Things to be aware of:
The buttons are a bit fiddly until you get used to them.
The microphone quality could be better, but is acceptable.
If you are wearing them and lean back against the couch and the band touches something you'll get a break in sound.
The newer S9-HD are, apparently, much better on sound quality.
Beware eBay conterfeit ones that seem cheap. I bought a second pair after being pleased with my full rpice store bought ones and they were clearly counterfeit and sucked big time! Pretty good copy though, just small moulding details gave them away. I did get my money back.

Clayton, that review was outstanding! Your editing and such rivaled anything I've seen on CNET. Thank you for the review, I actually ordered 2 pair(me & my wife) of the S9-HD model, looking forward to being wire-free when listening to music.
Thanks again and nice job bro! :2cool:

I just upgraded from the red/black S-9 to the S-9HD and loving them. The solid black looks allot better, the signal strength seems allot better(i can now put my iphone in my from pocket and walk without skipping), and the music quality is better than all but the most expensive wired models in my opinion. Wireless music will never be as good as wired but I am just saying these are better quality sound then any wired headset less than $100.

dwest, thanks a bunch. I mainly got them for running at the Gym, can't wait to be free of all those damn wires. The reviews seem to be mostly positive and I thank you for your thoughts!

Thanks for the props! I'm always trying to make my videos interesting and informative. I'm trying to get my videos as short as possible with the most amount of info.
Hey, I'd like to work for CNET! I dunno about relocating to San Francisco but I'd fit in. I'd be the next Asian iPhone geek there! :laugh2:

I made a video of the problems I've been having (and others have too) with the Motorola S9 and some workarounds. Plus, I got this cool bag to protect the S9.

Clay, once again, great video!
I received my Motorola S9-HD from Amazon ($68), so far it works great. I have not experienced any of the issues you mentioned. I'm not sure if maybe I just haven't had it long enough for those issues to occur, or maybe the "HD" version isn't prone to these issues. The sound quality is really good. I was originally a little dissapointed with the volume level but I changed the profile on my 3G S under iPod settings to "Spoken Word" and it actually increased the volume level considerably. Also, phone calls are in stereo!
Thanks for your update and I will report back with any issues.

Wow! That's amazing! I wonder how much of the differences can be attributed to the newer S9-HD and the newer 3G S?
I might want to inquire with Motorola to see if they'll send me a review mode for the S9-HD. I have to admit, my first video was received surprisingly well on YouTube. I think many realize there's this new iPhone function but are quesy about spending $100+ for it.
I'm glad your purchase worked out well. I heard the audio quality of the S9-HD is much better than the S9. I'm also surprised that calls are received in both ears. It's the first stereo BT headset that does that so far.

I just bought one of those on ebay for $25 from a company in China. They said Motorola S9, but how good are my odds that this is legit, and not counterfeit? I haven't received it yet, BTW.

Good luck HondaMaker, if it's not counterfeit than you got a great price! Let us know how it goes bro!

On sale on Buy.com for $60.
Really want to order these as a birthday present for myself.
For those that have them: do the skip and back buttons work for music playback functions? Anything not work? These are the S9-HD ones...

They work very well for me, the only thing that doesn't work is the skip track since it's not supported by the iPhone yet. I really like them so far.

Like itsabouttime said, the iPhone Stereo Bluetooth capability does NOT support track forward or track back. Why? I have no idea. So, it would not work with ALL stereo Bluetooth headsets anyway not just the S9-HD.

Oh, so no matter what I have, I won't have that capability, you're saying?

That's correct, the issue is with the iPhone, not the headset. Hopefully the next update from Apple will include this.

I'm thinking about getting these headphones to use while I work out. I'm tired of worrying about yanking my iPhone off of the elliptical machine if I accidentally catch the headphone cord, and possibly damaging the headphone jack as a result.
I'm hoping Apple fixes the incomplete AVRCP implementation (http://www.everythingicafe.com/news/iphone/apple-reveals-iphone-3.0-bluetooth-profiles-200906241397/) in the next firmware update so that we can get the skip, fast-forward, etc. controls with an accessory like this.

macgirl, I use these while I work out as well, they're terrific. Of course I wish the AVRCP was enabled, but aside from that they work great. Very lightweight, sound quality is really good. Volume was not quite as loud as I wanted, I went into the iPod settings and ended up changing the EQ to Spoken Word and it increased the volume dramatically, they are now perfectly loud. Having no wires bounce around while I run is great.
If you try them, let me know what you think. :2cool:

Got my S9 today! Like it so far, except with my earbuds, I could hold the little clicker until the voice command activated, and so far with the S9, I can't find a a way to activate voice commands. :dft006:unhappy
I haven't gone jogging with it yet, though. Tomorrow I'll get off my lazy a$$ and run a little.

I can't confirm with the S9, but the S9-HD "phone" button activates the voice command feature of a 3GS just fine.
