Alright so, I was texting with my Launch iPhone (v1), just normal, then when I went to text back, the top row of keys didn't work.... they work in landscape, but I can't do it like that in SMS. What do I do now? This phone had to last for 2 more months until the refresh came out, and now this happens, someone please help me.

I've tried restarting, soft and hard, when I punch the screen a little bit, I can type one key from the top, and then it goes out again.

restore that ish asap before anything else goes out. if that doesn't work you are prolly SOL, but i have a feeling it should fix your problems. what firmware you running?

I'm on 2.2.1, never jailbroke it or anything. I honestly don't even know how it happened, it's not like I dropped it or anything, the top row just decided to go out, im doing a restore now.

hardware failure is not out of the realm of possibilities with the original iphone. hopefully the restore should fix it though.

Wasn't there a guy on here a few days ago that edited a plist and got the dead part of his keyboard working somewhat for the time being?

i always do work :)

here is the thread, took me longer than i expected. we really need to fix that "the forum requires you wait xx seconds between searches".

i would recommend directing your focus starting on post #12 and sending a pm to that guy. hopefully he can explain it to you and we can get it fixed. i'm assuming since this phone has never been jailbroken you aren't familiar with ssh. if you want copy the info here or pm me and i can walk you through it.

Alright, I pm'd that guy, hopefully he responds by tomorrow, I'm going to call Apple tomorrow morning just to see how much a fix would cost. I'll post in this thread or PM you. Thanks for being so helpful btw.

no problem, let me know how it goes. don't waste your money on a repair by apple, chances are they will rape you in cost. if you have to, just get a 20 dollar boost phone from walmart, put your sim in it, and wait for the new iPhone to be released this summer.

as long as this guy responds though we should be able to get it working imo. keep us posted.

So I went to the Apple Store today and my life was saved. The Genius guy helped me out a bunch, and just gave me a new refurbished 8GB, v1 iPhone, just switched SIM cards and sent me on my way. I feel so much better now, he was so cool and waived the $199 replacement fee as well.

Nope, I got my v1 on iDay 2 years ago almost. The dude that helped me was just really awesome and waived the fee, I don't know why or how, but it made my day a lot better, lol.
