I did a little searching on here and couldn't find another thread with what I had in mind, so if there's one out there and I missed it feel free to lock or delete this thread.

I got this idea from another board I was a part of and this should be fun. The rules of this are simple: feel free to post anything! It can be anything random from how your day is going, some random thought that crossed your mind, you're mad because some girl dumped you, a rant, etc.

I'll go ahead and start!

I really want to buy a new car. My current car is slowly falling apart and making repairs doesn't even seem worth it anytmore. *sigh*

Sorry, but with 2652 posts, this thread (http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/official-iphone-camping-plans/test-post-only-dont-read-18020.html) is by far the definitive thread for randomness here. I won't go so far as to close this one down, but it's going to take a lot to reach the epicness of that one.

way back on another board we created a thread with the goal of reaching 1,000,000 posts.

i think we made it to 40,000 and gave up.

needless to say it got pretty redundant.

Even though the work day is over, I have so much to rant about. The entire day was just fine up until the very end.

I get the joy of dealing with a customer who started out nice, then as things went along, got worse slowly.

To make a long story short, I had to connect the customer to my supervisor because he wasn't happy with me and tried to lie to get me in trouble.

A$$wipe.

**If anyone is interested in the full story I'm more than happy to post it**

evolution83

That right there was God punishing him for hitting the person on a bike with a car door.

What I don't understand, is you see a guy in red shirt that I thought was gonna get hit, but it turns out to be some kid in a black shirt instead.

And from the description of the video, he was trying to pull him off his bike instead of hitting him.

"Description: Guy trys to reach out of a moving car and pull a kid off a bike and gets what he deserves."

Hawk
08-20-2009, 02:39 PM
still, hit the kid with the door or pull him off a bike makes no difference to me, I still see it as malicious. who would pull a kid off a moving bicycle from a moving car?

Oh, I know. I wasn't defending him as whether he tried to hit him with a door or pull him off is the same thing.

He still got what he deserves and I hope that kid lived.

BLAH

Just got a little write up at work. Supposedly, I was "rude" to a customer when someone called in regarding a technical problem they were having. This happened a week ago according to my supervisor. This is my first write up for any "rudeness" I may have given to a customer and actually had a complaint filed.

I love how I'm notified now instead of when it actually happened. This place is awesome.

I guess I'll have to be more aware of my soft skills when it comes to talking to people. I can be as calm as ever and people think I'm being a b!tch when I'm really not. People are so judgmental.

Oh well, shouldn't be too hard. I'll do my best and just have to think "positive." It seems nearly impossible when you deal with people who aren't the brightest and normal every day life gets in the way.

Any pointers for keeping cool and not sounding like a complete dick? :)

Well, I can never be certain. I think it was a mixture of things; stress, caffeine and other additives.

I took some energy supplements in the form of pills last year that were newly introduced on the market. I've taken plenty of previous supplements before without a problem and I always read the labels on them, because some have serious health warnings.

Well, two hours after taking them I started shaking, hard to breathe and my heart rate was up. This went on for most of the day. Some say I had a panic attack, while I blame the pills. Since that day I've been on medication to treat anxiety because the symptoms I felt that day never went away. I also had various tests to rule out any heart condition and they all came back negative.

Like I said, I believe it was a combination of stress, anxiety and the pills, because at the time I had just started my current job and had this intense fear every day I would be fired because of the way this place is run by management.

Things are currently fine, though. :)

Yeah, this place is interesting. Very poor management, and the supervisors here have never supervised in any other job from what I can tell.

I've learned to deal with the stress and make positives out of it while becoming acquainted with management. I'd rather be on their good side than their bad side. I've seen what happens when people are on the short end of the stick; they don't stay here for very long.

I still have issues here and there with slight chest pain from stress, but I know it's not life threatening.

Oh, I have LOL. I came very close to getting one member or management fired at one point. He got very, very lucky though.

I have to often correct management for their mistakes and I feel I'd do way better than they would. I'd love to be a supervisor here.

My last job was an I.T. admin and I was in charge of about 400 people for the entire site, including my own department. For that reason, I feel I'd manage people better than our current lineup. Even our global site manager said she noticed I had some "Management" experience in my last job and can understand how frustrated I must be LOL

IMO, it was most likely related to something in the energy supplement, not the caffeine. But once you get started on anti-anxiety medication, it's often hard to get off it.

It sounds like a panic attack, but could have also been a chemically induced arrhythmia that caused your heart to "freak-out" a little.

I have had a couple from a bruised heart that were generally started after a combination of alcohol and sugar. Mine were short lived at about 15 minutes of pulse racing and having problems breathing, and my cheat feeling like a 500lbs man sitting on me, but they are intense.

Yes, I never wanted to start the medication but I had no choice. My mind and thoughts were so out of control I could no longer function and came close to death. I do plan on coming off the meds some time in the near future, but I'm not entirely sure it may be possible, as I know it will be difficult, and because it may be necessary for me to function somewhat "normal."

You see, my mother and her mother both suffered from depression, and my mother thinks it may have been passed onto me. They even tried treating my extreme shyness as a kid with medication, so, drugs aren't a first for me lol :dft011:wicked_smile

However, I do believe my anxiety may also be caused by other issues that I choose not to disclose at this time. It wouldn't be something too personal or serious, but if it's something I can confirm at a later date with my doctor, I'll post it.

It's all determined by where you grew up. The vernacular is regional. Torch makes sense because that is what the device replaced. Flashlight also makes sense since when you hit the switch, the light flashes on. (flashes aren't defined by a momentary emission of light, but that is the most common meaning)

I find that highly debatable as I do no such thing. I'm requesting a meeting with my manager because I've just about had it. This is twice now this has happened in the entire year that I've worked here, and I've spoken no different than I have in the past. WTF?

Seems like your having a real bad time of things with work at the moment, I hope it gets better. Remember - you work to live, not live to work. If the jobs getting you down that much, it may be time to take some time off or change jobs.

Sounds like your bosses may be picking bones with you, but it may be that because your feeling so low you are just over reacting a little. I'm right there with you Evolution. September ( hell all of '09) has been a cruel mistress. I got divorced, and had my surgery on my shoulder ( surviving daily on pain meds now...) and my boss loves to lean on me as the one he can push around and exert his authority on. I was very worried for a while that I would lose my job here after 9 years because my boss likes to be a jerk.

I get through it all by focusing on the good things. I did not go broke from workman's comp pay ( which is $500 a week max - about a 3rd of my take-home pay, and it doesn't cover my personal ins, benefits, credit union car loan, 401K, etc.); my ex-wife is almost completely out of my life, and she is going through a very rough financial time right now (I know, it seems petty of me, but living well is always the best revenge); the house is MINE!! - and I refinanced to get her name off the martgage and deed, and my payments are going down -plus I get to skip my October payment; my shoulder surgery was successful and by spring I should be 100% -finally; and I have a very large group of family and friends that are very supportive.

Change your focus and it will change your life. It's ok and necessary to get pissed off at things, but get pissed off, then let it go and stick to the positive.

To be quite honest, I should have been a basket-case by now and if this was last year, I probably would be. But I just have to keep looking at the positive side of things, and it does help make the day better.

It is AMAZING how people react when food is around.

My boss just brought donuts for everyone. The minute he put them down and opened the big pink box, at least three people got up and hovered over like vultures.

As soon as they leave, I saw two more people at random times go up for donuts. One is a coworker who sits two seats down from me, and another is a quality team lead.

The quality guy went over and put his hands down on the table, practically put his face in the box and looked around like he was searching for his dead kill lol.

Haha yeah sorry. Sometimes it does seem necessary to add the apostrophe simply to make the person realize you're attempting a pluralization but 99.9% of the time it's just not right.

Speaking of random. New season of Dexter! Apparently there's a leaked season 4 episode 1 floating around. I think I might give it a watch.

Customer: I need some help getting my device configured so I can connect to the internet. My device is not being seen on the network

Me: OK, what kind of device are you using?

Customer: What do you mean?

Me: (again) What kind of device are you using?

Customer: I still don't understand. What do you mean by that?

Me: **thinks to self - WTF?**

**silence......**

Customer: Hello?

Me: I need to know the name of the device that you're using so I can get you some assistance. Do you have a router, and if so, what brand/name does it have?

Customer: Can you transfer me to someone else who's a little bit more helpful because I don't understand your question.

I finally ended up getting the name of the device, but come on...are you that retarded you don't understand a SIMPLE question?

Seriously, FML.

I think larger jaws and more prominent teeth were vital for survival in our ancestors. The wisdom teeth may have been back up teeth for those lost earlier in life. As we evolved, our brains became larger and our jaws smaller, and usually unable to accommodate the extra teeth.

Which ending? There are three. That was one movie where the theatrical ending was only seen in the theater. The DVD had a different ending and the alternate ending on the DVD was similar to the theatrical ending, but had one subtle difference that changed everything. John Cusack had a slight grin a couple seconds before the ending after his wife hears the tape. Because of that, the theatrical ending was ambiguous, but still, by far, my favorite. Did you see it in the theater? In the alternate ending on the DVD, he doesn't let his wife hear the tape IIRC. The DVD ending at the funeral was the worst of the three.

Youngbinks

Well dang, I only ever saw it in theaters. I might have to see if I can can find the alternate endings floating around YouTube somewhere.

******SPOILER******

I remember for the theatrical ending, I had a feeling that the wife came up to the room and ended up getting trapped in there with him and that the tape recording was just another one of the mind games the room was playing. It's been a while since I've seen it though but I do believe that is what I thought.

Fish depending on species can outlive their owner or humans. Some of the big ones have been known to live for 20-25 years in captive. In the wild if really big they can live longer than some birds.

When I had fish, they were decorative (if that's what they're called), for decoration. That's probably why they didn't live long. True story - I had four fish. I woke up one morning and I found the first one dead lying on its back, in approximately 30 minutes my Dad received a call that some one we know had just died 30 minutes ago. And that happened with the three other fish as well. I know you might not believe that but I swear it's true. That's the main reason why I stopped buying fish.

I try to maintain the cleanliness so I dont have to do a massive clean. I have an air pump, cleaning kits for perfect water... live plants. and theres an under gravel filter.

I would ideally like a through wall fish tank like the one below, that acts as the wall between my kitchen and hall. Doubt I could afford one though...

Ok, you asked for it ;)

I have a gold bar maroon clown that hosts a Rose Bubble Tip Anenome. No tangs. The tank is a 55 gallon which is 4 feet long. Tangs like to swim far and fast, so tanks greater than 4 feet long are recommended. I got the Scribbled Rabbitfish as a tang alternative. He eats algae and is venomous. The Domino Damsel and Clown both healthy females that lay eggs. There are no males present to fertilize the eggs, so they disappear within a few days. They would have a zero percent chance of survival even if males were present. You have tons of time, patience, and multiple grow out tanks to raise fish fry. That's something that I am not interested in doing. I just let the eggs become fish food.

The Idaho Grape Plating Montipora, which is the only SPS (small polyp stony) coral in my tank is very fast growing and I have to break little pieces of it off weekly during water changes to prevent it from touching other corals. They can still sting each other from several inches away or emit chemicals to kill other corals (alleopathy). I run high quality activated carbon to help prevent that as it is essential in mixed reef tanks. My Frogspawn is my largest LPS (large polyp stony) coral. I've had it for about three years and it's grown from 6 heads to over 100. Each head is worth $10.

Most of my corals are thriving and I can frag them and sell them as they grow. I have lost a couple corals since I've been in the hobby (which is just over 3 years); my Xenia slowly died off and my Gonipora lasted about a year. Goni's have one of the worst track records for captivated corals and even the experts can't keep that one alive for more than a couple years. They are one coral that really should just be left in the ocean.

Tank specs. 55 gallon reef ready tank with built in overflow. SLS Tek Light 4 x 54 watt High output T5 lighting with ATI bulbs changed annually and a 10 hour daily photoperiod. One 1 watt blue LED night light. 2 x Tunze 6025 650 gallon per hour powerheads for flow in the display tank. Deltec MC500 protein skimmer to remove waste before it has a chance to break down. Most people serious about this hobby build a DIY (do it yourself) sump/refugium because you can build one that is far superior to those you can buy, not to mention a lot cheaper. Mine is a 20 gallon long with 3 plexiglass baffles. The first separates the intake/skimmer section from the refuigum, which is where macro algae is grown and harvested to help outcompete nusiance algae. I run a 19 watt compact floresent bulb in the fuge 18 hours a day alternated with the display lights to stablalize the pH. Then there is a baffle with teeth to separate the fuge from the return section and an under baffle to prevent micro bubbles from returning to the display tank. I have a Mag 9.5 return pump to return water to the display after filtration. Water is gravity fed into the sump from the overflow.

Live rock provides biological filtration, carbon provides chemical filtration, and mechanical filtration (biowheels, canister filters, ect) is not used in salt water. Instead we use protein skimmers to take the place of that type of filtration. I feed the tank pellet food three times a day and change 10% of the water weekly. There is a DIY auto top off to drip freshwater, about 1 drop per second, to replace water lost from evaporation and keep the SG stable at 1.026, which is the natural ocean level. I supplement alkalinity and calcium daily to match consumption from the corals since their skeletons require adequate levels to grow.

Live Stock includes, the GSM clown, Domino Damsel, Rabbitfish and Blue Damsel. Corals and inverst include, Idaho Grape Monti, Frogspawn, RBTA anenome, Florida Ricordia, Discosoma and hairy mushrooms, Finger leather, Toadstool, Candy Cane, Green star polyps, woods polyps, zoanthids, a bunch of banded trochus snails and hermit crabs.

Here's a top down shot of the Monti when I first got it, the Florida Ricordia mushrooms, Candy cane 2 seconds after the lights came on with its feeder tentacles still out and clown fish eggs that can be seen next to the deflated anenome.

That is a joke correct?

You will kill everything.

The fish just hide or sometimes defend themselves. To clean the algae off the class/acrylic you can use a sponge or a buffing pad. Most people use the magnet cleaner and do it that way. Its not good to completly clean a tank anwyays. The bacteria or "muck" you see inside the filters is like a mini eco system. It keeps everything alive. Bleaching this, will destroy not only the fish but the bacteria, and you will need to take the tank apart and vinegar wash it so that things can grow and live again. Bleach is the LAST thing you'd use for cleaning a tank.

That is almost certainly due to the toxic effects of ammonia. Fish produce ammonia and will die if you don't have an adequate amount of (good) nitrifying bacteria present to convert it to nitrites and then nitrates which are non toxic. Reasons for ammonia build up include; not letting the tank adequate cycle before stocking it, overfeeding, inadequate water changes, death of one fish (the dead fish produces ammonia and basically starts a snow ball effect) in a small tank that is borderline overstocked, and overstocking in general.

My tank will be 3 years old in February. I have 4 fish and have had all of them since I cycled the tank.
Very true.

His tank is a little bigger than mine, but it's the same priciple. You never do 100% water changes. I change 10% of the water weekly by siphoning it out and then pumping in new freshly mixed saltwater.

Yeah, it all depends on your protein skimmer. With a high end skimmer, you can get away with 10% weekly. No skimmer or a toy skimmer, and you'll need to change as much as 50% weekly depending on how it's stocked. 20% every other week instead of 10% weekly is just fine.
