I need an iphone - im based in the UK so i would prefer someone in the Uk, preferably White 16gb, but with limited funds i will look at 8gb ones too...

If anyone can give me advise on whether US iphones will work with UK chargers / usb's etc and work on O2. If i unlock it, will it work with the new 3.0 or will i loose service until 3.0 is broken?

Thanks

Free bump + info...

A U.S. iPhone will work with a UK charger - all you need is the correct plug adapter, of course. As you know, my iPhone came from New Zealand with a New Zealand plug adapter and I use it strictly with my US plug adapter and it works fine. I've also used it in Spain without any trouble using the right adapter from the Apple world travel adapter kit.

As I understand it, 3.0 is not unlockable yet, so you should strictly look for an iPhone that's still on 2.2 with the 2.28.00 baseband that can be unlocked. When unlocked, it will work on O2 just fine...

Just to clarfiy then Macgirl, when 3.0 is released, you (as your phone is from NZ) will have to stay on 2.2 with the old baseband until they find a way to unlock 3.0?

Thanks for your help

No problem. Nope - I got mine from New Zealand because they sell them factory-unlocked there and it's already on the 3.0 beta and has remained unlocked. If you don't buy a factory-unlocked iPhone, 3.0 beta is not unlock-able yet on a "normal" iPhone 3G (or V1 iPhone, IIRC), hence the need for you to find one that is still on a firmware that can be unlocked so you can use it with O2 on your current contract.
