Headphone adapter solution!

Sorry if this has been posted. I saw on another forum that there is an "Ipod Shuffle Sport Case" which happens to include a small headphone adapter that works perfectly with the iphone and any standard headphone jack (like my Bose QC). After some searching, I found this case, with the adapter, for $10 at Circuit City. Don't need the case, but $10 for a perfect adapter isn't bad! You can also get it from Amazon.

I would really prefer to use the ear buds than these that caome with the phone!

They are an Apple product. You can order it from the Apple website, or maybe find it at an Apple store. Other places that carry ipod accessories might have them, too (Circuit City, etc.). They are 29$ from Apple, a bit cheaper from Amazon. I got lucky and found one at Circuit City that had been opened for 10$. The adapter works great! HTH!

You can also take an exacto knife and cut off a little bit of plastic around the jack. That costs nothing.

Trimming the plastic does not work if the metal part within it is still too big for the iphone jack---as with Bose headphones for one.

I'm just trying to use the same "in the ear" ear buds that fit in the iPod, nothing fancy. In my case, the iPhone "hole" is too big for them.

Do you think that your method will still work?

I trimmed the jack on my QC2 headphones without issue...they work perfectly with the iPhone.

Thanks for this link nzomatrix. I ordered the adapter and the splitter so that I may also use a headphone amplifier to amplify output from the iphone.

To me it looks like that plastic may have to be trimmed as well. I've got several pairs of headphones and I have to push the plastic up on almost every one to make them fit into the plug.

Someone asked about Sennheiser--I trimmed the plastic a couple mm's off my Senns (PX300s) and they do fine. Not that I'm recommending anyone do it--just my own experience!

I've read that Mylarone X3s by Crossroads fit the plug fine as well. A lot of audiophiles at www.head-fi.net rave about these in-ear headphones. They're $57 but unless you can find 'em used in the States, the only place you can get them is from a techno shop in Singapore. Considering those guys at Head-Fi are willing to go much much higher for headphone quality, it's interesting that almost every thread I read about these phones was positive. Hard to go wrong for $57 bucks (plus shipping and 10 days of course).

Here's a "compatibility" thread--and near the end a bunch of guys jumped in with their own modifications. Really cool!

I just did the X-acto hack (http://iphone.macworld.com/2007/07/minor_surgery_enables_bose_hea.php) on my Radio Shack cable I used in my car to pipe music into my stereo.... looks and works just fine. I thought the plastic would be a lot stiffer... turns out it's not, combined with a sharp knife. Your mileage will vary of course.

I guess for one, which adapter are you talking about? 'Cause I'd wanna make sure it's going to match my existing 'phones. Second, a bunch I've seen either need cutting anyway, like one described previously; others like that Belkin thingy is so obtrusive and inflexible, it just adds bulk. Third, I guess I've already spent a lot and the principle matters a little bit, although I have bought other crap that's just specifically for this device.

Prolly could've gone to Radio Shack and back in the time it took to write all this. :rolleyes:
