Very interesting article from PC Mag and what it could mean for the iPhone 3G and next gen:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2345773,00.asp
Especially this part:
Major chip manufacturers such as Broadcom and Atheros have already finalized and released chips based on the specification, but consumer products featuring Bluetooth (http://www.pcmag.com/topic/0,2944,t=Bluetooth%20SIG%20Inc&s=1489,00.asp) 3.0 won't be available at least until the end of the year. However, according to Bluetooth SIG chief Mike Foley, "any phone or computer that has Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a 802.11 G card may be able to be updated to Bluetooth 3.0 via driver, firmware, or software update" — meaning millions of existing cell phones and computers (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2345773,00.asp##) can take advantage of the new features.
