Twitter profile picture

I'm using iPhoto to put a profile picture up for Twitter, but when I go to upload the picture it says too big blah blah. I go into iPhoto and crop the picture and I still get the same Message. What am I doing wrong? Is anyone having this problem? If so could you lend some assistance?
