So, im looking to buy one of them pro cameras. I dont know much about em (coming from a Cannon Powershot), but im sure i can learn about them and how to use them effectively . Im looking to buy a Nikon, or Cannon Camera thats up there with the SLR's or whatnot. Can some one recommend a good one to buy? (budget around USD500)

I always look here for reviews. Either Canon or Nikon make very good cameras.

www.kenrockwell.com is another good site. He highly recommends the Nikon D40 as one of the best all-around DSLR's out there for both newbies and experienced photographers. I recently got one myself (my first DSLR, having had only point-and-shoots before) and it's great. You can buy a new one for around $400-$500 that will come with a good kit lens, but there are also some great bonus kits out there that include an additional lens, bag, etc. I bought mine used (hardly - only under 200 shutter activations on it) plus 2 lenses for $300 from a very nice co-worker.

Wow, i really was hoping no one would reply (this being mostly a phone/apple forum)
Thankyou guys so much for the point in the right direction.
When it comes to these cameras im so newb...and as i just learned today... you have to buy that huge lens separate and certain lenses do different distortions. (like i learned one can do a fish eye look lol).
That picture is really crisp. Does anyone know some sites where one could learn to use photoshop to improve or edit images?

I have learned all my photochop skills from playing around. I know my way around in PS very well now. A good forum for photography is thephotoforum.com. YouTube has some good Photoshop tutorials as well.
And yes, the biggest expense in photography IS the lenses. The Camera body can be had for a few hundred, but lenses can be multi-thousands. Most lenses are in the $200-600 range tho.
