Okay, Hi. Names LoLo. (Kinda).
I just got an iphone 3g.....never had a new phone since 2000-had a free nokia 6030 that was a freakin champ...but my amazing boyfriend knew I was in need of a advanced cellphone to bring me into the century haha.
With that said....
Is there a way to change my message tones without jailbreaking my iphone?
I have learned how to get ringtones via an exhausting search on google (Seriously, I am only 24 but now feel 50+ after trying to figure this crap out) but I cannot find anything about how to get my text message tone to change.
Please, don't use abbreviations if you can help it....I haven't been on AIM or any sites/forums in ages and cannot figure these new ones out to save my life.
Thanks!!!
LoLo

Don't think its possible to change message tones with out doing the jailbreak. Kind of unfortunate, cuz the stock ones suck ;)

04-06-2009, 11:05 PM
Yeah they do!! I used to have a cool Mr.T that said "Mail Mother F**ker" haha and it was GREAT and now I have "bing" ... soooo lame:angry:
Now, I know jailbreaking makes it so you can like do what you want or whatever....but is it worth it? Does it like eff up my new phone because I'm an idiot and won't know what I'm doing lol

There is a ton of threads on here about the pros and cons of it. I personally loved having mine jailbroke. You can change just about anything on the phone doing it.

Is there like an idiots guide to how to do it and then what to do once its jailbroken lol
Adam1389
04-06-2009, 11:12 PM
Check the modifications section, there is a whole list of how to do it. Pretty much once you get it jailbroke, just browse the install app, Cydia, and see what you like. Are you running Windows or Mac?
Check this thread for info

Right on, QuickPwn works. Check the Mod. section I linked to for the rest of the info, should link you to the QuickPwn program. You'll also need the firmware file for whatever version your phone is running. If you got it recently, probably 2.2.1. You can search the interweb ;) for it and download it. Run quickpwn, and voila, have a blast
Also, welcome to EIC. This place rocks, lots of good help on here.

Okay, got another question.
The lady at Apple told me that there's a way to see what programs you have open, and a button to shut them off....does this make any sense and if so---can you help me lol she said it eats your battery.
Also-does the camera have any settings? Or just "Hi, I'm alive"
Adam1389
04-07-2009, 10:54 AM
If you did the jailbreak, you can setup SBSettings. and check whats running that way, once its installed, you just swipe your finger across the top status bar (signal meter and all that) and it opens up (Pretty sure its SBSettings)

I'm not sure what the apple lady was talking about. The home button will close programs, but you cant have two programs open at once. So I have no idea what that meant.
No camera settings. It is what it is.
Just so you know, changing the message tones is not an easy task. If you're new to this whole thing, it requires going into your phone through the back end of it--accessing it on your desktop. And deleting files and whatnot.
I know what I'm doing and I still refused to change my message tones for fear of what I might delete by accident. Just a heads up.

Thanks a ton!!
I called her, it's an app called free memory that shows you and you can shut them off from there.
Damn the no camera options...what I am to do if I want to send nudies to the hubby. Geesh. I'm not THAT talented.
Also.....being to a new computer as well, what do you all use to download music? Do you use bit torrent like I used to...I don't know what's good/bad/shouldn't touch etc.
Thanks for all the help!!

I'd be careful with limewire....especially if you're running a PC. People have access to all sorts of stuff on your hard drive.
Yes, you can flame me all you want, but I'd rather pay 99 cents and have a safe computer/credit score than try to get around it the easy way and end up not being able to open a Sears credit card. :p

Haha, I've always had problems with limewire (okay, back in 2003) is it any better?

I've had good luck with music on it. I won't touch anything else though, videos and all that. Make sure you have a good virus program though just in case. Music isn't usually a problem though

There is an App called iEasy Photo that basically turns the whole screen of the iPhone into a shutter release button. Explanation: while you have the iPhones lens (back of camera facing you) it is very hard to find the small shutter release button on the screen. With iEasy Photo you can touch the screen anywhere and it will take the shot. Happy shooting. Mark
P.S. Tell your hubby he owes me :laugh2:

Limewire is safe if you set it up properly. I buy 99% of my music from iTunes. Yet some artist just can't be found for sale and LimeWire is a good way of getting some "lost Artist's" material also unreleased tracks. Anytime you go online you are at risk. All you can do is protect yourself the best you can and hope for the best. There are so many databases with your info that if someone wants to steal your identity. They will find a way to do it anyway. Exactly the reason why I have credit monitoring 9.99$ a month is a small price to pay for the peace of mind it brings. Mark

Are you using the mail app? or accessing it through the web?
If you are accessing it through the web, there will be a log out button.
if you are using the mail app....then closing it, will log you out. Unless you have it set to fetch your mail automatically.

It takes a lot of work. It also takes 7 years for any bad credit to be erased from your credit score.
But I digress.

Of course everyone has to do what they feel comfortable with. The ones that tell the horror stories don't know how to use Limewire safely and correctly. Mark

Also.. if you browse the photography category in the app store, you will find some pretty amazing photo apps for, cropping, effects and a ton more!! I actually use ieasycamera more than the stock one mostly because in settings you can change the image stabalizer!! All of my pictures come out really great because of this. A small list....
ieasycamera..lets you use the entire screen, instead of a small green icon.. great for self portraits!! Also provides image stabalizer..
colorsplash.. lets you grey out entire pic and then color whatever parts you want
photo fx.. effects galore
ifxmagic..effects
picoli..effects
camera bag.. different effects
replaycam.. les you shoot up to 25 pics in a timed sequence, then you can play it back!! Cheap video trick
iflashready.. lightens up those dark photos!!
Enjoy !!
