I have an iphone 2g. all i get is the emergency call screen. i am running 2.2.1 i think. I am running a pc using XP. When i plug it into itunes it says:

We could not complete your itunes store request. A secure network network connection could not be established. Please check your computer's date and time are correct and try again.

I have tried seaching and have found nothing. I need help bad. What do i do?

Try putting it in DFU mode and restoring it.

i dont know what DFU mode is. The think is i did restore it this morning. and know when i plug it in it only shows pop up that i mentioned above. I have no options for my phone through itunes. except for eject. Sorry for the stupidity but i need some help.

Is the time correct on your computer (correct year)? Try rebooting the computer and also rebooting the phone. If the problem persists, put it in DFU mode and restore. I linked the directions above, the steps are the same for Mac's and PC's.

On the emergency screen, there should be a little "i" in the corner. That should tell you if there is a problem. Mine gave an error unknown emie and iccid or something like that. If that is the case, the problem is that either the modem firmware is corrupt, or your communication card has died. Mine was the latter. Sold it on eBay for $130 and got a 3G.
If it's the firmware, you have a good chance of fixing it. If it's the card, sell it before the new on comes out, and get the new one.
Also, listen to the people here. There are a lot of very smart people here that might offer better ways to fix or help you.

You're welcome. After you get the contacts put back in, back them up in iTunes with a Yahoo or Gmail email acct.
