Upgrading from 2.2 to 2.2.1

I have a question regarding upgrading the OS of my unlocked 3G iphone. Currently, I'm running 2.2, is it safe to upgrade to 2.2.1 and still use my phone with T-Mobile?

Unless you have purchased a factory unlocked phone (bought it unlocked from apple) then no, you shhould not update, the baseband will be updated and you will lose your software unlock. I think there is a method to upgrade and preserve the unlock, but it must me done on a mac and with specific tools.
