iphone 3G unable ro recieve sms and calls at times despite FULL signal

my iphone is unable to recieve calls and sms when phone is idle after a while. reception shows full Signal, but when i try to call in using another phone, sometimes its engaged. after i try calling out using the iphone, all the unrecieved sms starts streaming in.

My local operator, Singtel, has offered me a replacement, but still the same problem

could there be a problem with the SIM card (new though)?

could there be a problem caused by having over 1000 pictures in my phone?

Pls help, i cant think of any solutions other than replacing the phone with another model and make.

I think it's to do with Singtel (Optus for Australia) not your phone. Don't worry about having 1000 pictures on your phone! It's what it's meant to do. I would talk to Singtel because i'm sure its with the network and not the phone. Good Luck!
