I restored from my backup at first, which rendered youtube inoperable. I had restored the first beta 3.0 as a new device and had youtube working. I am now restoring as new again.

i agree, mms is really not a problem for my, i have been working around it this long so whats another couple months. worst case scenario is i have to us viewmymessage.com, and now i have copy paste to make that smoother as well

yes i think so, the deference is they don't need to download the ipsw from a torrent, they get there firmware from apple

Well, biggest improvement I did notice was pictures are now easily moveable while zoomed in.

iPod still takes time to load songs. Reminds me of how Contacts used to act, and how SMS used to take a long time to load.

Processing power of the phone probably doesn't help?

Oh, auto-brightness now works. Tested it with a flashlight on the sensor array. Took about 10 seconds to adjust.

Much smoother, pinch/pan and zoom now working correctly.

Teathering on by default, but not MMS... previous carrier hack still works though!

Correct. The restore as 'new' phone fix was beta 1 fix for YouTube also. B2 has the same issue. I thought this would have been a first fix in B2 since YouTube is a native app to the iPhone. Wrong.

MMS probably hasn't been implemented at AT&T for full service yet...

Future Apps and iTunes purchase settings? Maybe something like a weekly or monthly $$ limit on how much you spend? Plausible but I really have no idea.
Possibly a setting using push to automatically download free app updates when the phone isn't in use?

Maybe also for parents to limit what their kids may buy as far as explicit(in their eyes) content? I know there is a setting for this in 'Restrictions', but I think it's only for playback?

I am stuck with my windows vista right now. When you download the iphone beta 2 from apple it is a .dmg file which is unrecognized by vista. My question is that if I change that extension to .ipsw will it be the exactly the same as if you downloaded it on a mac(a fully functioning 3.0 b2)? I have heard of so many improvements in beta 2 and I want to update asap. I just don't want to use it if the file doesn't work on windows because then I'll be stuck with a temporarily messed up iphone.

I changed the extension and it seems to have switched it to the ipsw and the computer recognizes as so. Has anyone just tried simply changing it? I am just hesitant to do it even though it will probably be fine.

I don't think that's gonna work, when I extracted the .dmg file for the first beta there were other files in there, not just the ipsw. and I've not read it was possible in a google search, if you could do that you would think there would be plenty of hits just telling you to change the file name.

Yes I have and there is a free trial on it. Just open it up from the program itself, I couldn't figure out how to do it via the context menu.

I finally got it put on and I agree, much smoother. Some changes I've noticed: I sync my contacts and calendar with Google, whenever my wife calls it now displays a minature picture of her in the top right. It also says her full name that is in Google rather than the name I have for her in my phone. Also, I have my phone in another language so I'm curious if Picazzo had something similar to this as I assume his phone is in Danish. When sending an SMS the "send" button no longer says "wyślij" but simply "OK". Weird....

How do you tether with the phone? Is it only a 3g feature?

Mine says AT&T 3.5 and MMS works. On beta 1 after using the hacked at&t ipcc file it said AT&T 5.0, so obviously those carrier settings were overwritten with the update.

Can you receive MMS and just not send? Or is it a no go with both?

Tethering is where you would use your iPhone as a modem for your PC/laptop/mac.

All I can recommend at this point in time for mms is to try and get AT&T to provision your line for MMS. If you can get them to do it, and you still can't send and receive, you may need to use the hacked ipcc file.

Place your sim in an mms capable phone, power it on/off a couple of times, make a couple of phone calls, even if it is just to a time/temp service, call your mother, tell her you miss her, whatever, just make some calls, get that phones imei registered with your sim in at&t's system. Keep looking at your OLAM (Online account management) and when the picture changes (on it's own), you should be able to go in and change your messaging plan away from the iPhone and on to a regular messaging plan. Once this is done, you can put your sim back into the iPhone and rebot and you should be good to go.

You need to change it to a plan that does not say iPhone in it. you want a regular messaging plan. If it removes the iPhone Data plan, yes you will need to add it back after you put the sim back in the iPhone.

I used shift + update and when I did that I had beta 2, but I was never asked to set up as a new phone or restore and all my user data was still there. Feeling firmly I should set up as a new phone to avoid bugs I used the shift + restore the next time and set up as a new phone, and no problems there either.

Why did you go to all the trouble to use PowerISO? Just rename the .ipsw file to .zip and double click to extract. Should preserve all the data just like on OS X

I would follow the guides to downgrade to 2.2.1. Then use the technique described to obtain your UDID and hook up with a developer. Once your UDID is registered, then you can upgrade to 3.0 beta 2.

on a Windows Computer

1) open itunes
2) get iphone in DFU mode
3) select restore iphone (using the original 2.2.1 firmware, not the custom one)
4) let iphone do the restart process until you get ERROR 1013
5) close itunes
6) open quickpwn. you will get a message saying to hold power and home for 15 seconds. do it exactly like that hold the power and home for 15 secs.
7) turn on iphone by holding power button for 2 secs
8) open itunes and BINGO iphone is recognize and activated

tinted, are you on a Mac with OSX version lower than 10.5? I think that may be why your phone isn't showing up in iTunes. I don't know what to suggest other than upgrade OSX or use a PC to restore.

It's not gonna show up in iTunes, you need to get it into DFU mode, when you do, iTunes should tell your their is an ipod or iPhone in recovery mode. From there you can follow the directions, still assuming windows.

I've been getting some really odd lag since beta 2. Occasionally, my phone will slow to a crawl. Doing anything, even just swiping through homescreens, has like a 10 second lag. I check the Free Memory app and I've got plenty of memory free, so that's not the issue.

Something is gumming up the works a bit in this beta, and I hope they can fix it.

The lag that I've experienced isn't consistent. It just happens every once in a while, then I cold reboot.
