I am trying to find out if it is possible to create additional folders in Mail. for example in my Comcast account, I've got my inbox and trash. That's it. How can I create additional folders. Then in my Gmail I've got a bunch more. Can anyone help? Thanks.

well, i know with gmail you can create folder on your desktop/laptop and will show up on your phone...

It depends what method you're using. If you're using POP, then no. If you're using IMAP, yes, you can see other folders you've created.

You can use IMAP on Gmail, I do.

Correct. You have the option of POP3 or IMAP with Gmail.
