Hey guys,
I'm curious as to how people use their iphones on a regular day. I've been hearing a lot as to how it is different than other cell phones in that people mostly use it for everything other than calling.

Thanks,
Irv.

Hi Irv

I use my iPhone for loads of things, primarily I use it to listen to music on my commute to work and back, I also use it to check my mail and reply to threads on everythingicafe (like now!) I also use the gps function a lot and follow it as I'm walking (fantastic feature and works very well).
Occasionally I call people but I'm far more likely to send a txt (never used to like sending messages but the predictive text makes it fun and quick)

Cheers Jack

Alarm to wake up
AOL radio for news during shower
Music on the way to work from the iPod or Pandora
Calendar to keep my bookings straight and auto-synced with wife's iPhone via Google
Contacts, ditto to Calendar
Email pushed instantly all day long
Piano app for pitch reference at work (music)
Seeqpod tracks for mix references at work
Other synths and gadget apps to wow and amaze clients
Games for downtime
Safari is probably my most heavy usage. Tons of surfing all day.
Lots of pictures, panorama app, photogene for touch-ups, email off to photobucket/irovr/twitter
Tweetie for that Twitter fix
Orblive to stream my entire music/video/document library, as well as live cable TV anywhere, free

And there's more. And yes, I do use all those things pretty much every day and have plenty of battery life to spare at the end. I am a happy boy indeed.

I use mine primarily for calls, email, facebook, texting and loading apps. I really don't use it for music (yet). I do have an iPod though. I keep 3G off because I am not in a 3G area, the closest 3G network is about 30 miles away. I just recently switched from Alltel to AT&T and I love my iPhone!

First post on here by the way :laugh2:

Pretty much any and everything. Games, texting like crazy, phone calls, alarms, reminders, countdowns to certain events, the GPS function is a lifesaver, photos, email, you name it, I'll use the phone for it. This has been the best trade I ever made..Guy traded me his iPhone for my AT&T Tilt (sucker).

Wow. Just about as much as everyone I guess.
I wake to the alarm, listen to music, watch some movies on break or lunch occasionally, use the GPS to help me find addresses (I work in the field). Surf the internet lots, etc., etc.. and I've never killed the battery yet.
In fact, I'm trying to kill it right now as I type this for my once a month "take 'er to empty" (the first time) and I just can't get the thing to die!

How are you listening to it in the shower?

There's a stereo with flushmount wall speakers in the bathroom. I just use the iPhone's headphone out to the aux in of that. I wrap the phone in a small towel to prevent moisture buildup.

Hehe, not at all. Just, for me, that really is one of the least-used apps :tounge:

I'm not a talker...

Thank you all for your replies. It seems to me that this is an excellent product judging from the responses in that it combines all of its multiple uses very well.

Sorry to be using you guys, I just wanted to gather information as to whether or not I should buy one.

Thanks again,
Irv.

My 3.0 alarm clock is quite buggy. Sometimes it goes off and other times it does not. I have to use a real alarm clock now.

I average about 200min out of my 450min/month. I have wayyyy too many rollover minutes saved up.

LOL, you guys talk alot, it's rare I use over 100 anytime minutes. Course with unlimited mobile to mobile and everyone I am related to and know being on AT&T and unlimited nights & weekends...that's not really indicative of how much I talk on the phone.

Does anyone have to recharge with all these uses? I just hit the 10% battery amount and its 10pm. However, here is my iphone use today:

Phone charged while sleeping all night

Woke up checked email
Read Mobile News in bank drive thru
Surfed a couple of websites for a few minutes
Been at my desk all day with access to my PC (so did not use the iphone)
Made and received a few phone calls during the day (one or two were fairly long, but not more than 15 minutes)
Just was on the phone for about 20 minutes when the message came up.
At work, Wifi is on as at home. Only time I was 3G was at bank and during phone use.

Is my battery life seeming short?

styfle
03-30-2009, 10:09 PM
Yeah that seems a little short. Is bluetooth on? Try charging all the way and when you get to 10% next time, go to settings > usage and it should tell you how long you have used it since last full charge.

shutter13
03-30-2009, 10:10 PM
Seems short to me. I did alot more than that today and just high 20% about an hour ago. Lotta facebook, twitter, surfing, MMS SMS email GPS and alot more...and the screen brightness is set at about 60% with auto brightness on. Was probably using my phone 20 minutes out of every hour.

Bluetooth was on! Going to test it tommorow and run it all the way down. Thanks

Let us know how it goes. I normally last a day and a half w/o charging. But i find it that if i use safari for a good amount of time ill hit the 10% at night. A good amount is like 2 or so hours of youtube video play or safari.

Is leaving Bluetooth on that significant a drain? I was also wondering if the screen brightness diminished battery life. I have it set to maybe 3/4 of full brightness.

Ironically the Phone is the least used feature i use...

Alarm to wake up
Ipod music / podcasts all the way whilst cycling the 5 miles to work and back.
Push email and calendar
internet surfing and games through the day
Maps to locate coffee shops etc
facebook almost every hour everyday
ebay mobile
Then i use Rowmote at home to control my Mac so i can watch DVD's etc without moving from my sofa! ;)

Update on battery:

Charged it overnight.
Bluetooth off.

Used it like normal. Check mail a few times, read some news, check calendar, tested the ipod running and answering calls with the headset, updated apps, etc. A number of phone calls throughout the day.

I got the 10% remaining message and checked the usage:

Usage 3 hours 53 minutes
Standby 16 Hours 3 minutes and still a dab of red on the battery.

I would say I am on the lighter use compared to some posters. Is my battery consistent with others?
Thanks

yes screen brightness is huge to killing battery, lower the brightness and turn off Auto-brightness. also turn off ask to join networks in the wifi setting
these few tips alone will make a big difference

I use mine for the Internet, iPod and Text Daily. I use the GPS when traveling and Apps when bored. I rarely use the phone (have a nextel for the people I need to talk to).

I can tell you I am addicted to it and can't live without it. My wife always makes fun of how lost I am without it when I leave it at home by mistake.
