IMAP Email Question

When you delete messages on the iPhone for an IMAP account, does it also delete the messages on the IMAP server?

Yes thats how IMAP works

you can tell the iphone to move inbox messages to the "Trash" folder on the server or on the phone. choosing server will effectively "delete" the message. choosing phone will leave it in the inbox on the server.

Great. I know some smartphones I've had in the past, did not have this ability. When you deleted a message, it only deleted it off the phone, not on the server.

I've noticed two behaviors:

If you choose a trash folder on the server, the messages are moved there.

If you don't choose a trash folder on the server, the messages are deleted but not purged. You have to purge them manually on the server
