Hi,
I'm new to this forum - hi all http://planet-iphones.com/forums/Smileys/default/smiley.gif
I hope this is the right place to ask this...

I have an iPhone 3G (which I got a couple of days ago so I'm a true newbie) and a Gmail account. I've set up the account by pressing the "Gmail" button (under "mail").
My problem is that I am able to download mail when connected with WiFi but when I'm connected by 3G I can't get new mail (even though I can see I have it when I go to my account via safari).

Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Tomba

Welcome to EiC! And congratulations on your first post. Well, you posted the question in the iPhone 3G Cases section which is the wrong place to post it. You should have posted it in the iPhone 3G Section.

Anyway, answering your question; If I was in your position,

1. Try hitting the reload button on the bottom left hand corner. Also try checking that your in the right folder - i.e Inbox and not Junk mail and what not.

2. I'd try to set up the email again. So delete the mail account from your iPhone then set it up again on the iPhone.

3. If that doesn't work try restoring your iPhone.

Tell me how you go and good luck.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
I've already tried all what you suggested and nothing worked but the good news is that in the meanwhile I managed to find the "cure". I'm not sure why but at some point I thought to myself "since it works fine with WiFi and not 3G, maybe it's something to do with the 3G settings (even though safari worked great with it)". Since my 3G settings were only an APN, I googled my cellular provider's name + APN and found a different APN than the one I had, I put that in and - Voilą!!!

Thanks for your help anyway

No worries, just remember to post a thread in the right section next time and you'll get more replies. :)
