Has anyone downloaded this app yet and if so how do you like it? So for you to get free txt messages the other person has to have the app too?

I have textfree lite.....you can send and i guess it depends on the phone or carrier your sending them too.....because some people were able to respond and some werent. App works great thou. it even has notifications so you dont have to keep the program open to receive texts.

as I mentioned in another thread, i had to find a new wifi SMS app when infinite SMS shut down last week. when i threw this out on twitter, the general consensus was to get SMSenger. i've since bought it and used it regularly - no problems at all, it's very stable. i did some cross-border shopping this weekend and proved that it works in US and Canada. tip: the word on twitter was version 2.0 will be rolling out soon and the price may not stay at 99 cents. i'd get it now before the price hike. good luck!

Weeell, that's just a spammy way to introduce an app. We do have an app announcement forum here and rules specifically for developers:

http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone-app-store/developers-promoting-your-applications-to-eic-readers-45249.html

Welcome to EIC, but please observe the rules regarding app promotion. Thanks... :)

I tried TextPlus but for whatever reason it kept telling me every time I tried to text a contact was that it needed to be a 10 digit phone number...ummm it IS a 10 digit phone number. All my contacts have parenthesis, my guess is that is what was giving it issues. If you think for a second I'm removing them from all of my contacts just to use this app, you are smoking something sweet.

On the other hand, TextFree (I use the light version for now) just works. I've texted a few people, and all of them were able to reply to me, and none of them have iPhones, therefore none of them had this app.

I've tried all these different free text apps. But the person your sending it too, it comes out kind of weird.
I found that yahoo messenger has unlimited free to phones built in. (Besides push for people that I know on Yahoo messenger.) And it's free.
Then I've used google voice. It looks exactly like a real text to the person getting it. (If you don't have this yet, you should get on the waiting list.) It works on your computer and I heard Apple is going to approve the app once they make some changes, soon.

I've used textfree and textplus on my 3G. Both of them work pretty well but textfree should change their name. In the beginning when you paid $5.99 for the app it was free texts forever. Now it is just for a year and then you have to pay $5.99 again. I have a google voice phone number linked to textfree so essentially I get texts directly to my phone as push notifications. I then can open the app and reply. WIth text plus it works a little differently. You can NOT use curse words on textplus either. It will put ****** in place of any choice four letter works. Even ass is not acceptable. The problem with these apps is they take way too long to load. Unfortunately the best app is the one that comes with the iphone but I hate paying ATT extra money for texts so I use these third party apps. I just have the basic 200 message plan.

If you are in a forum you should obey the rules always. Anyway the app you mentioned I like it. Interface & graphics is good. Works fast.

I have a friend that's using this app (text free unlimited) and the incoming messages from her don't get put into contact folder on my iPhone like the typical SMS messages do. Is there a way to have them all go into a folder so it reads like a conversation like the stock SMS app does? Each message is numbered like it's coming from a new contact so I have to delete each one as it comes in or it ends up being a long chain of messages on the SMS home screen.

This is what the SMS homescreen looks like.

I can reply to the messages but each new one she sends is from a new # instead of in a folder with her name on it.

Text Plus was nice when they first introduced it as it was free texting until they changed their policy. People that downloaded the app after a certain date had to pay 5.99 per year which is still a bargain. It works well and people always get my messages quickly. If someone replies, and the app is off, you will be notified via push OR through email if u set it up that way. Overall , a decent app, and a bit slow to load. I still like the SMS app that comes with the phone, especially now that it has MMS.
