View Full Version : Sigh, Switcheasy Capsule Rebel fail.

Im so disappointed. After about 5months or so with the switcheasy capsule rebel ive noticed it has a fatal design flaw. The bottom "bar" of the silicone like part of the case has bowed about half an inch away from the bottom chrome finish on the phone. The soft plastic/silicone part of the case lost its shape, and the only wear it saw was sliding into and out of my hoodie or jeans pocket. Such a pity considering i love the combo SwitchEasy did with the Rib like hard plastic and soft silicone/plastic. Ill post pics when i get a chance.

So...because of this im looking for a nice case. I was thinking of maybe trying the Capsule Neo.

How has the long term use of the case held up. Has the soft parts lost its shape. How good is the case etc. Cmon EIC help me out! pro's and cons.

*also considering the Incase as a last last resort, only if it comes in white.

I think you would really like the incase Slider. I've had one on my 3g since I got it back in October, and a) my phone still looks new b) the case shows very little wear. c) it will protect your phone (except the screen)

london, i had the same issue with my switcheasy so i just emailed them asking if there was a warranty or anything like that as the bottom started to sag. they just asked me to take some pics and they sent me a brand new case (which seems to be reinforced in that area) so if you want give that a whirl, they were really cool to work with.

Pepe, im going to take pics when i get home today and show EIC and email switcheasy about it. What will they replace it with? The same rebel case or will they give me one of my choice because if i can get the black/white storm trooper Rebel then i want it.

Did you also have an arctic case?? I have an arctic rebel.

I would certainly try this first, but otherwise I agree with Hawk. I have had the incase Slider on my 3G since the day I got it. Only case I have had for the 3G. When I had the V1, I was a case whore and used numerous cases but I have been very pleased with the incase Slider.

i had/have the white rebel. if you just talk to them and tell them you want to try a different one perhaps they would be open to working something out. like i said they were really cool to deal with so i don't think it is out of the question.

Yes I agree with the Slider people... I've had the arctic, and the black rebel, and they both did exactly what you said and basically just got, "old and worn". Plastic started molding, they looked like a mess. I gave in and went with the Slider and I love it. It's scratch proof, it's got the rubber rails inside for impact protection and it's so solid that I really feel like if I drop it the impact won't go through that hard plastic much at all... I love it, paired it up with a decal girl on the front and my phone has a great look to it. Slider till the end... :2cool:

If you're looking for new cases, I always recommend Seidio. I have an old V1 case from them, and I think the Innovision II is one of the nicest cases out there for 3G. I hope they make something similar for the next iPhone because I'll probably stick with them if they do.

Just my $.02

Loving the metallic red incase slider. Looks great with my PS anti-glare. It is my personal favorite "thrown in the pocket" case. Def worth the money and don't believe the hype that this case scratches the back plastic.

I found that if you put the case on and then the screen protector, it fits flawlessly

I've been in the market for a case myself. Been torn between the Innocase and Slider.

I think the Innocase looks better than the Incase Slider, but it sounds like the Slider may be better as far as protection. The Slider says it has the rubber guardrails but the Innocase only says it has a "soft felt lining". Seems like the rubber guardrails would provide better shock absorbtion. Am I wrong?

I currently am using the Otterbox Defender case, which is a freaking tank. But I'm tired of the bulk. I miss that slick look.

I have a white slider on my phone now, and it was either last weekend or the one before that, I found scratches on my phone from the case. Not terrible, but it's disappointing to find a little bit of damage from the very thing that is supposed to protect it.
I went on their site and read their warranty policy. in a nutshell, they are not responsible for damage caused by the case. WTF?
I am a slider fan, and they have always been good to deal with as far as warranty claims (I had a slider for my v1 that cracked and they replaced it.) But lately, they seem to be dropping the ball.
They will not cover damage caused by their case, the power slider apparently has fried some phones (which is probably not covered either), and as of late, no response to my last email.
For protecting your phone, I still say the slider is probably the best for the size, but if the company keeps heading in this direction, I'm going to have to take my business elsewhere.

Hey guys.
I just got an email from SwitchEasy. I dunno about the rest of you, I will not buy from SE again.

Here is what the email said:
The silica that we used especially on all black models is cause the sagging effect...Happens more frequently in a summer time...( great!! right?) Well.. just like how your tire wears out more at summer heat ours case also could stretches out on the heat. We have almost no problem with White, Red, Blue or any other color..but if you put them out on extream heat they will probably stretch too. We have only one mold so it is a material on the black case..

Why didn't we fix it then??

In the other hand, this is the same material that actually provides the essential cushions for the fall when it happens, and act like a Super Helmet where it is solid on the outside and still soft on in the inside. So yes, we could totally solve the issue if we don't add that darn part in it , and you would never have to hear or read about a stretching problem over time.
But than we wouldn't sleep any better knowing we just made a case that doesn't really protect your phone just look great! : )

We had people writing to us that they dropped they case from a 4- th floor marble stairway, or fell out of they pocket while listening to music on a freeway riding a motorcycle doing 95 mph!! a moving car with babies tossing out in the window and the phone survived without a scratch..

We will replace your stretched rubber base or your phone case if it is worn out beyond use if it comes to that at no cost. All you need is a picture sent to us. You have a 2 year Warranty on your case.

It is a far better scenario than lining up on Apple and asking to replace your shattered screen.... for free.

Mech
07-08-2009, 11:09 PM
Why not? That email basically tells you why it's flawed, and they said they would replace it. If it is sagging, then yes, it's beyond use because the case will no longer offer protection.

Glad I ordered the tiger then. Also, I've read that it mostly sags when people use the dock protector.

Do u always believe the bs that's dished out at you? For one thing, his examples are just that, BS. Another thing. My RebelCapsule does not protect the glass as he optimisitcally implies with his examples.

Why buy from a company that has crappy products and doesn't standy-by them and does nothing to improve them once they know it's defective?

This [new] company is king in my books when it comes to building customer loyality and satisfaction...not.

Mech

I don't believe it's all bs. Yes, the examples seemed a little extreme, but unless you were there, you can't disprove it. He still offered you an opportunity to send in your picture and get a replacement, so I guess I don't really see what your problem is.

Anything that is mass produced will have defects. Materials sourcing is way more complicated than just "picking a new material." The case design itself isn't defective, and they've offered to replace your case which IS defective.

When asking for resolution from a company, you have to state what you want. What exactly do you want?

I personally sell Switcheasy and find them pleasant to deal with and very helpful. I don't carry brands that make "crappy products." And generally the definition of "standing by" a product is replacing a defective item, which they've offered to do.

I like the company and the products, the people there have never been anything other than polite and prompt--so I think they are actually quite a good company, as case manufacturers go.

I got my Tiger color yesterday, and I must say, I love it! It's a bit bulky, but after leaving my phone in the nude for a couple weeks (my xylo touch-thru started to have too many "dead spots"), it's nice to have something to hold on to again. The screen guard was a bit tough to put on, as the first one I tried picked up so many particles I had to scrap it and use the second (which I only got stuck with one little speck trapped between the guard and the screen), but I can't even tell it's there. Overall I'm pleased, It only took four days to get to me from California from placing the order and the overall quality of the case seems durable.
