Between a regular Iphone straight out of the box and an Iphone that has been jailbroken?

What other capablilities do you have and is it really worth it?

you can pretty much customize every little aspect of your phone to your liking. plus extra apps that you cannot get on the app store.

Can you please give me some examples.

jailbreaking allows for themes and some programs that Apple will not allow in the Apps store because it violates the EULA agreement.
Things Like PDAnet that allow you to tether your laptop to the iPhone to use it's internet connection. Winterboard allows themes, and there are camcorder apps as well. It also allows for unlocking the phone for use with other carriers, but that depends on the firmware version. needs to be before 2.2.1
The problem with Jailbreaking (and opinions vary on this) is that many people have put themselves in a panic because they didn't pay attention to the process and kind of killed their phone. It was fixable through a restore, but occationally it's not.

So with all that said, is it worth it to jailbreak your iphone?

i would say, try it, it really simple to do if your paying attention, if you dont like it, then just restore. all in all its a good thing to try. tons of people love it, tons dont. its up to you to decide which one you are.

That's up to you. You are going to get a lot of opinions here about this subject, and you need to stick with the facts.
I personally stayed stock, and for the most part, I have everything I need. A camcorder would be nice, and so would themes to customize my phone, but they aren't deal-breakers by any stretch. I have 5 pages of apps on my phone right now. I can tell you I probably use less that 1 page of them on a regular basis. There is already so much out there in the App store that besides the 2 reasons I stated above, I don't see the reason to Jailbreak.

Plus, in my personal opinion (especially after watching my first iPhone die) I think that jailbreaking is far less stable than people think. Everytime you come to iCafe Forums, click the new Posts link up top, and just look at all the posts and see how many of them have something to do with a jailbroken phone and a problem. It's more than most realize. But that is also not to say that most could strictly be user error too.... I just find it too risky for something that costs so much in the first place.

Those were my thoughts too. It seems to risky.

I had mine jailbroken for over a year now & love it. For the rookies I would have to say leave it alone, but for the players "jailbreak it".

I don't agree with Hawk, though I certainly respect his opinion.

I have jailbroken my iPhone many times with no negative effect, and I find it worth it for the apps and utilities it makes available to me, such as:

MxTube: Watch and download YouTube videos directly to your iPhone, storing them locally for later viewing.

Cycorder: Video recording (with audio) for the iPhone.

Clippy or hClipboard: Pretty good implementations (especially hClipboard, in my opinion) of copy & paste on the iPhone.

xGPS: Voice turn-by-turn GPS navigation.

dTunes: Play music downloaded to your iPhone through www.seeqpod.com

Like Hawk said, you'll find many varied opinions on the subjectof jailbreaking; this was just mine.

I believe that almost all cases of faulty jailbreaking are due to user error. Too many people don't take the time to read the instructions in their entirety and plunge headlong into the process, perhaps reading as little as they can to get the process started. Then they whine and cry about their jailbreak not working.

I stared jailbreaking when the process was extremely complicated and involved a lot of strange, wondrous instructions that sometimes took hours to implement (I'm not saying you didn't - I'm just relating my experience).

Today's jailbreaking process is very simple and straightforward if folks take the time to, well, you know - RTFM...

It's well worth it IMO.
There's also an app called Qik for live video streaming and PdaNet for tethering (using your phones internet connection on you laptop).
