Hi all!
I know it seems like there's a lot of repetitive questions here onthe forum asking the same questions over and over and mines prolly no exception! Hehe but I'm ready to jailbreak my phone again and I want to know if there is a 2.2.1 jailbreak ready to go. I know when I restored and updated my last 2.2.1 I was happy with my returned speed to original state of iPhone. And I know they had not come up with a stable jailbreak for latest update. Well, I'm ready again ! (I miss my pipboy theme! ). Is it safe to jailbreak again. Is I clarified best info, resource, guide? Thx
P.S. I've tried researching on here and I'm still fuzzy on a clear answer on if it's safe again? Sorry

yes it is safe. follow this guide i have put together and you will be fine.

i have done 2.2 but not 2.2.1 yet (i have jailbroken other iphones on 2.2.1 but want to keep mine unlockable on 2.2 for resale value this summer). if you want to jailbreak on 2.2.1 you will need to update to 2.2.1 via itunes.

download quickpwn from one of these links.

mac:
http://quickpwn2-2-1.googlecode.com/...kPwn_2.2.5.dmg

windows:
http://quickpwn2-2-1.googlecode.com/...kPwn-225-2.zip

if you are jailbreaking on a computer that you DID NOT update your iphone on, you will need to download a copy of the 2.2.1 firmware to the computer you are jailbreaking on, here is a link in case you need that.

Original iPhone 2.2.1 Firmware:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....1_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 3g 2.2.1 Firmware:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....1_Restore.ipsw

so basically download that stuff, connect your iphone to your computer, quit itunes, then open quickpwn and follow the instructions. it is very easy to do.

**note, if you are running a new macbook or macbook pro with OS X 10.5.6 it will not recognize your iPhone when it is put into DFU mode therefore you cannot jailbreak with that computer. there is a fix for it, it is extensive and i have not done it yet, but when i do i will update with a how to for this**

There already is a simple fix for DFU mode... use a usb hub. No need for all that other garbage. I used mine to jb several iphones with no problems.

^yes, a usb hub works and so does the patch, i haven't done either yet as i don't see the need to update at the moment. too much goin on right now to worry about that stuff.

I'm trying to jailbreak my 3g but I do not have the firmware pack. The links you posted are dead unfortunately. Where else can I get that file?

which firmware do you need? 2.2.1 for 3g or original iphone?

Yes, I need the 2.2.1 for a 3G. I already downloaded quickpwn so I just need that now. Another question I have that I can't find is is openSSH something you install on your phone or on your computer? I apologize for the noob questions, but this is my first time jailbreaking.

this one should work.

2.2.1 3g Firmware:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-5828.20090127.aQLi8/iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw

openSSH is an app that you install on your iphone that allows remote access via wifi to your iphone. if you have a mac download cyberduck or if on windows download winscp or iphonebrowser. go on youtube for videos that walk you through how to use ssh, i love it and use it A LOT.

^yes you can

1. for future reference if you have a question just start your own thread or do a search (it works GREAT)
2. if you want to go back to factory settings just plug your iphone into your comp, go to itunes, and click restore. nobody will ever be able to tell that you were jailbroken.

glad to have you on the site mr barkley :)

Thanks for the reply, sorta thought that instead of clogging up with another thread I would reply to this one as it was the same topic... but I will remember for future.

Following the directions and link from Hack That Phone to download 2.2.1 firmware, it downloads as a folder and not the image that is shown in the tutorial. With that said, I've tried this before from this site and had the same problem. I'm fairly new to Mac (MBP 10.5.6O), so I don't know if it's my lack of knowledge are another issue. When I open the folder there is one dmg. that asks for a password that I obviously do not have. With the exception of the one .dmg that asks for a password, the remainder show failed to mount. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

^are you trying to update with that 2.2.1 firmware link? if you are you need to either download it as a torrent or just do it in itunes (much easier).

i posted the link because you have to have it on your computer that you are jailbreaking with. if someone updated their iphone on a different computer and are trying to jailbreak on one other than that, it will not work unless they download the firmware to their comp. you don't have to open the folder or anything, just save it to your system and quickpwn will find it (i save it to a quickpwn folder on my desktop).

furthermore, if you are trying to jailbreak using your MBP 10.5.6 you will not be able to complete the process unless you use a powered usb hub or the 10.5.6 patch.

I just received a refurbished phone from ATT, I'm not even certain what firmware it has on yet. I am trying to jailbreak and unlock. I have installed the patch for USB on the 10.5.6 and I was trying to download the the 2.2.1 firmware for a custom build with pwnage. Thanks for the reply, it clears things up about ipsw.
