There's a lot of discussion on EiC concerning jailbreaking. My iPhone is jailbroken, because without jailbreaking I couldn't enjoy video recording (http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/third-party-applications/cycorder-with-audio-36108.html?highlight=cycorder), copy & paste (http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/third-party-applications/copy-and-paste-apps-clippy-vs-hclipboard-42582.html?highlight=copy+paste), voice turn-by-turn GPS (http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/third-party-applications/xgps-voice-turn-by-turn-update-out-now-44297.html?highlight=xgps) and a slew of other apps unavailable to stock iPhone users.

i've long been against jailbreaking due to concerns over stability, but if it starts to act up, I imagine you could just do a restore back to stock. I'm actually considering jailbreaking mine this weekend.

Jailbreaking's cool. I waited a while before I did it the first time, so I think that made it that much cooler since I was used to stock.

Now I'm stock again (couldn't handle the lag that jailbreaking seems to induce for some people) and I don't really miss being Jailbroken. There are some cool things about it, but nothing I use on a regular-enough basis to justify the lag. Not everyone gets the lag, though.
