Hi guys! I have a problem I was hoping someone might be able to help me solve. I have a jailbroken iPhone 3G on 2.2.1 firmware. It mostly works absolutely fine in all ways, but this specific problem has lingered since I bought the phone in August last year.

I don't have a data plan for my phone, so I exclusively use my own wireless network to surf the web. After being connected for a while, say approx. 20 min, the WiFi symbol on top of the screen is replaced by an "E", which for me basically means no internet connection as I have disabled edge and 3G. Everytime this happens I can reconnect by locking and unlocking the iPhone, and most of the time the new connection will last almost as long as the first one before it stops.

This problem is very annoying. Sometimes it occurs while I am watching a video on youtube or the internet in general. All of a sudden I have no connection and the video stops loading. It's even more frustrating when I use applications that rely on an internet connection, like the iTunes Remote or a VNC app. I use my phone as a remote controller for videos and sometimes when I try to e.g. change the volume or pause it won't let me because the connection has mysteriously failed. Has anyone a similar problem? Does anyone know what I could do to prevent this? I don't experience the same problem on my laptop, which is connected wirelessly to the same router.

I have the same EXACT problem! Same exact setup--iPhone 3G, jailbroken, 2.2.1.

Wifi would stay connected and all of a sudden drop and the phone will go into 3G/Edge. The only way to get Wifi back is to lock and unlock. I know it's an easy (temporary) fix, but it's hella annoying!

I think it may have something to do with SBsettings and/or Autolock, but I'm not sure. Any news on a fix?

I haven't been able to figure it out yet, ufortunately. I'm still having the same problem. What I've found out however is that whenever I lose the WiFi connection, instead of locking and unlocking, I can go into the settings app and this way it will automatically and instantly reconnect (I don't even have to do anything in the settings menu, it happens all by itself). This will make my new connection last longer then when I merely lock/unlock. But perhaps you already experienced this as you targeted the settings app as being a potential factor of the error? I don't have auto-lock turned on so that doesn't seem to be the problem for me.

How about reting all network connections? Just warning you, this will make you have to reenter all the passwords or wifi all over again.

I don't think that would make a difference. I have restored my phone several times in iTunes without noticable effect. I have also resetted my router once or twice So resetting (is that what you meant with reting?) my networks doesn't seem to do the trick for me. But thanks for the suggestion anyway :)

What I meant was do that on your iPhone. Go to settings -> general -> reset-> reset network settings. Sorry for the typo I was and still am on my iPhone.

It's all right. I too am writing from my iPhone :) Anyway, I figured that since I have completely restored my phone several times this should be equivalent to resetting the network settings on the phone. But I have not tried the exact procedure you explained so I might do that next time my connection fails.
