I want to make a seemingly simple iPhone app. I'm not going to tell anyone what it is, but I think it would be pretty simple.

Where would I start? Does there happen to be a free online-based class that tells me how to do things visually from the ground up? Or am I stuck because I have no coding knowledge whatsoever...

You're not stuck. There are a ton of good resources around.

Apple's Developer Connection site is here (http://developer.apple.com/iphone/).

A very good site for interviews with current iPhone devs, links to screencasts and all sorts of training material is Mobile Orchard (http://www.mobileorchard.com/).

if you prefer books, check Amazon - there are a number of good learning guides out there. Here is one (http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-iPhone-Development-Exploring-SDK/dp/1430216263) that I know has been highly recommended by many beginning devs.

I think you should maybe ask a mod to change your post title - to include the words 'iPhone app development' or similar - so people with knowledge can help quicker and so on ...

I've done some searching, and I'm having some fun :). I figured out how to get a sample app onto my actual iPhone without paying the $99. Now I just gotta figure out how to code.
