Hey guys, Im sure this is going to sound redundant, but my iphone has had it's first bath last week. I've read up on almost everything I could find. I spent 2 days on the phone with AT&T and Apple and in and out of Best Buy and AT&T store and ended up buying a new phone straight out from Best Buy for 499.00.

Long story made as short as possible...I did the rice thing on the one that got wet for a day or so. I fired it up and it was working ok. The screen (on the bottom side seemed to be a little distorted from the water and that appeared to be the only thing wrong. The only funny thing was, when i plugged it in the APPLE stayed on the screen. It never showed that it was charging.

After it fired up it gave me a message saying there was no sim card. Everything was working good, i could see my vids, play my music, everything. But latter on through the day it kind of started locking up on me. I did a hard reset on it and it started working again. And then I reset it one more time and the APPLE Logo will not go away. I can't get back on the stupid thing. Occasionaly it will give me a little thing underneath the apple that rotates like it's thinking and then it will vibrate a few times but will do nothing else. It just stays on that stupid apple.

Futhermore, if I let the thing stay on the apple long enough the battery will finally die. When the battery dies, when i push the power it the battery thing pops up on the screen showing i need to recharge. I recharge and then the apple comes up again.

This morning I restored it completley. I plugged it in, held the power button and Home button down and then when it turned off I continued holding the home button down until I tunes showed that I needed to restore it. I Completley restored it. It looked as though it was doing fime. The apple went away and it showed on the iphone that it was restoring. FInally it finished and when I turned it back on that stupid apple came back up.

Also let me say this, Itunes recognizes it, syncs it as though everything is ok. But when I hook it up to the cp it will reboot about every 5 mins or so.

Any advice? Sorry for the long post!

If anyone wants to chat on the phone email me at pickettman@gmail.com with your phone number and I will give you a call back.

Thanks
Brian

It seems as if your iPhone might be done for. You most likely tripped the water sensors in the headphone jack as well as the bottom port which means that Apple would see you have water damage and would likely not replace the phone because of that fact. I can't really think of any suggestions at the moment but I'll look around and see what I can find.

Or this....

Father shoots kits with pellet gun to teach them what if feels like (http://www.startribune.com/local/39557222.html?elr=KArksLckD8EQDUoaEyqyP4O:DW3ckUiD 3aPc:_Yyc:aUUl)

P.S.

I'm not suggesting the OP shoot his children with a pellet gun....I think. :tounge:

you could always sell it to recoupe some of the cost of the new one. non working water damaged 3gs sell for about 100 to 150 dollars. sometimes they even get close to 200.
good luck

My kids have not yet ruined any of my electronics, but a few Nintendo DS lites have been damaged by being dropped multiple times.

Oh, and one of them lost a shuffle. Those things are sooo small.

It seems like the OP has a pretty good attitude towards the damage. Good luck with the replacement.

Turn it off and leave it in a sealed bag of rice, or other moisture removing substance, for a week or better. Depending on how much water got in it..."a day or so" was not nearly enough. Continuing to try and use it without being sure it was 100% dry inside was VERY bad for it. It's not necessarily the water that does them in, it's the short circuits resulting from being used before they completely dry out.

The OP said in the second paragraph that he did the rice thing already, jeez.

Jeez. I guess Quake97 didn't read shutter13's entire post before criticizing him/her. Read it again. It's entire point is that "the rice thing" that was already tried needs to be done longer. JEEZ.

Definitely +1 on that. If you have any electronics that have had water damage, do not try to turn it on. seal with rice for 1 week before trying to turn it on. like the quoted poster stated, it's not necessarily the water that does the damage, it's the turning on when there is still water inside. I have saved ipods that have gone through the wash, and pdas with water damage this way.
