Next generation iPhone casing (http://www.everythingicafe.com/articles/2009/2/12/next-generation-iphone-photos-leak/)? Fact or crap?

I hope crap. It's plastic and looks even thicker than a 3G.

Ya neva can be too sure.

I personally don't think they will rls for a while, still a lot of life left in iPhone 3G.

I don't like the feel of matte. I like the gloss.

i like the matte. i'm used to my incase slider.

i call BS on these photos though. At least I'm hoping so. I'd like to see a new look to the iPhone. Although it still looks great, the design is 2 years old now.

I'm putting my money down to say it's fake.

It doesn't say "iPhone Video", so it's gotta be fake ;)

geeez i hope this is not the new iphone! however, with all the rumors of stronger and faster cpu, hardware and whatnot i guess this could be plausible.

Haha Dave I still think you have the best idea for the next iPhone. The video theme just sounds great...and reasonable.

The camera 'hole' is empty...maybe a shot of a possible backing?

I personally like the matte finish over the fingerprint hungry gloss. My iphone is in a fishbone hard/soft silicone case anyway.

I can't tell whether I like it or not. Especially the matte... It's a yes and no for me...

i can't call shenanigans on this one. Seems reasonable that it won't be any smaller since we'll still be in the struggle between powerful hardware and battery life.

at least the matte won't show light scratches or fingerprints as well.

on a side-note, is the 3G casing really this translucent?

Look at the bottom of the first two pictures.

Where's the Charging/connection port?
Where's the Speakers
Where's the screw holes...how's it going to stay on?

More Photoshop speculative fodder....yum.

Also by the writing... its kinda pixelated which is making me wonder what the hell i will come up with if i put those pictures into this program that tells you what camera, settings, exposure, and Editor etc the picture has been done with.

All things aside.... Apple isnt going to just release a 3G with just a new cover.

Again...more speculative fodder.

Ill stick my neck out too and say this is probably real. I think this is the direction Apple will move because of all the complaints over the slippy gloss finish, although i prefer it. I have to say though, if the new Iphone actually looks like the second pic (silver macbook pro style) i would fight tooth and nail to be 1st in line for it.

Anyone think Apple would go down the line of making an Iphone Pro??

Hawk
02-13-2009, 08:13 AM
Who knows? I can say that Apple probably mapped out 2-3 different scenarios as to what direction to take the iPhone long before the first version was ever released. (that would also explain the slow, if not non-existant, approach to copy/paste, mms, etc.)
But before anyone really knew that there was an iPhone, Apple probably said we start here, and if this happens we do this. If that happens we do that. I do believe that there were some small unexpected things like price point and the fact that 4GB was not enough in the grand scheme of things, but I am willing to bet money that the 3G was already designed when the V1 hit the shelves.
This new version was probably designed and fabricated before the 3G hit the shelves. But do I think that the posted pics are of a new phone? no. I think that the model number might be real, but that's about it. Unless the "new" version that's speculated for release this year is a slightly updated 3G (which would be a shot in the foot against the Pre).

acosmichippo

...the 3G was already designed when the V1 hit the shelves.

I agree with everything you said except this. The 3g reeks of a hasty design and release. I think if apple thought people really needed/wanted 3G from the get-go, they would have held off one year and included it in the v1. But, like a few other things you mentioned, they worked (a little too) quickly post-release to add the feature in.

A little FYI to the people who dont like the glossy composite black/white.

Even tho this is matte, it will stick pick up the same, if not more noticable finger prints.

i suppose if the material is similar to the black macbooks's casing, then it would tend to look a little greasy over time... but that's all i can come up with.

I'll go ahead and say it's real as well. I was hoping we'd see matte for the next iPhone - moving away from plastic is a must. However, seemingly contrary to what several people have said, I think the "MacBook Pro take off" design is just horrendous. I'd hate to carry something around that looked like this:

I agree... I love the design of the iPhone 3G right now! I LOVE the curves! makes it feel nice in my hand.. I dont think id like that so much.. Looks good but also looks bad at the same time haha
It looks like its trying to show off.. I like how the iPhone right now looks so simple and yet can do SOOO much

I have a universal remote that has a black matte finish and has that "grippy" feel to it. I'd love the new iPhone to have the same look and feel. I like my phones the same as my cars - as little chrome as possible.

I think it looks ugly whether it's real or fake. I hope it will at least come in another color, I don't like black, I like my gloss white. I could live with matte but it looks ugly in the picture. I would like to see a new color in new version.

I think it would be a rough feel if it were metal, but I don't know why everyone's assuming it's metal. That picture of the inside looks like plastic to me.

I've never felt a matte metal that I think would work for a cell phone, but if it's anything like Seidio's "rubberized" plastic, then I'm quite excited for the new finish. That's what it looks like to me.

I've had my Seidio for over a year and scratched it all up. It always buffs out to a lovely matte finish, even to this day. Slips in and out of a pocket easily, yet feels confident and secure in the hand. I've always said it's the perfect material for a cellphone, and I'd love a naked G3 to feel that way.

I don't really care for how the V1 feels naked, honestly. Way too slippery. I don't feel secure holding my phone at all unless it's in the case.

Im basing the matte situation as a harder to keep cleaner proposition. Matte black cars, or wrapped matte black cars are very hard to keep clean, and free from road debris because EVERYTHING shows up like an eyesore.

You're right about that -- my matte black "grippy" remote is much harder to keep clean than what iPhones are built with now.

Gloss may scratch, but its not as noticable as it is on a matte surface.

When I had the Samsung Blackjack it had a matte finish that reminds me of this new iPhone idea and it held up extremely well. It was super resilient so hopefully an iPhone would be similar.

There are pros and cons to both. Matte finish will be prone to damage easily. The glossy finish gets dirty more easily. Especially if you have sweaty hands.

My friend has the sweatiest hands in the world... Literal puddles. His iPhone is always dirty..

I have the 16GB black and slightly sweaty hands. It leaves the sweat stains on the phone and the screen.

I suppose both are prone to dirt and stains...

No, they don't. They could house it in a plastic dog turd and folks would be lined up for miles to buy it.
