Whos performance did you guys enjoy more in the Grammys tonight? I cant choose one because the sound quality produced was subpar? Whats ur opinion on both best performance and sound quality?

I didn't watch them, I had a session. I don't really find the Grammys to be a good indicator of anything, really, in the music industry. Except maybe how much money you make.
My boss keeps trying to get me to join NARAS so I can become a voting member for the Grammys and I can't help but think, "why?"

even when important musicians are nominated, the categories are usually skipped over during the ceremonies...they have a separate event for awarding the less popular categories...
stupid.

I take it back. I did DVR it just in case, and I skipped through to Radiohead's performance. It was pretty original and high-energy and otherwise brilliant. Typical for those guys. Also caught Carrie Underwood, and while I don't dig her music at all, I always admire her in performance. Pretty kickass.
And I agree, the sound was atrocious. Way too much room sound... everything was washed out and indistinct without impact. This wouldn't be the first time that there were major gripes in the industry regarding the sound for this show. Shouldn't it be pretty much the best-sounding show on the planet for crying out loud??

Jay-Z absolutely murdered this one. I'm not a fan of his.

I thought it was okay until he came up.
Radiohead's was pretty great. But don't get me started on "Swagga Like Us".. and making Stevie Wonder perform with the Jonas Brothers? Really?

I saw some of that Jay-Z/Chris Martin thing. I agree, it was torture to listen to. Unmusical, uninspired, and ... just uncool. Wouldn't be the first time they forced a duet like this on the Grammys.

I like the performance of the idiot who got into it with a female singer either before or during the grammys, and got sent to jail. What a dumass! Oh yeah, Chris Brown and Rihanna.

I DVR'd it. :P Plan to finish watching it a bit later tonight.

The Chris Brown/Rihanna thing is pretty ridiculous. Apparently Brown has a history of domestic violence from his uncle or step-dad. Sad stuff.

I heard Robert Plant won several awards (didn't watch any of the show) for the Raising Sand album with Alison Krauss.
Love that album ...

I believe it won Album of the Year in fact. I hadn't heard of it before.

Wow, cool if it did. I had heard of Plant before of course (Led Zep) but that album was my Intro to Alison Krauss. She's a country / blues / bluegrass singer with a really great voice. Here's a good sample of her duets stuff with Plant:

Allison's brother is a pretty badass bassist too.

Yeah, it won album of the year.
I respect and admire both those artists in their individual work, but that album does nothing for me, sonically or musically. But to each his own.

Once I discovered her, found I like her stuff with a band called Union Station even better - but still like the Plant album :)

I am a day behind here on this thread. I did not see all of the Grammys but the chick from Sugarland has some pipes. Wow. I thought she was great.
