is video chatting really a good thing on a mobile device? think of all the truths you'll have to tell...
Boss - stuck in traffic or stayed in bed?
Girlfriend - just left or just ordered 3rd round?
Mother - not feeling well or just pulled Michael Phelps-sized bong hits?

I agree with the above and to add to it, I just don't like people staring at me while I talk to them via some electronic device. It makes me feel awkward. My wife insisted on having my web cam on while I was out of town working for a month. Though I'm glad it made her happy to see me I always felt weird.

I would like it to talk to my kids and husband, maybe my mom, but really no one else. I don't know if it would be worth it. I kind of thought we were really going to get this when this was a rumor in the V2 iphone and it never happened. But either way, for family maybe.

I think it would be cool to have, and to say we have, but I'd prefer to leave it with one camera on the back. I don't think I'd even use it that much, either.

I'd love to have video chat but would only use it with family and maybe close friends.

I'm still getting used to Skyping with a webcam. I'm sure it's the sort of thing that grows on you. I'd like to be the sort of person that can just hop in front of a camera at any point and be myself, but I'm not yet. I'm not even really a phone person, so it's a big step.

I wonder if we'll ever get to the world of Star Trek. Where looking and talking into a box is the same as doing so in person. What about data lag? We're talking AT&T, now. HSDPA. I think it would make more sense once LTE is rolled out. Everytime I'm on a VTC, I find the audio/video synch as well as pixelation due to data stream constraints more on the annoying side.

Since I was little I always thought that one day we would be able to "beam up", silly I know.

There's a good book called, "The Physics of Star Trek" that goes into the technology (as we know it today) necessary to perform some of the feats that appeared on Star Trek. Apparently, we're not ready for a lot of them quite yet...

Video chat in itself is not good or bad... it simply is.
The only question is whether or not its inclusion would bump other features out or possibly the price up. If so, i'd be disappointed as i doubt id ever use the voice chat. I barley use the phone as it is.

i disagree. for me, it's no good and i don't want it. if the new iPhone has it, i'd be more inclined to hold on to my current 3G. video phone calls sound good now, but i don't think the world is ready for it...

just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it.

Exactly.
Granted, if video chat is the only new thing, I'll stick with my V1, even. But I'm sure it will be accompanied by other enticing goodies.
But I certainly wouldn't reject other goodies just because it had video chat.

I agree if it were the only new feature and if the other 'new' features were of little value I would stay with my 3g. I think I would seldom use it and Connie never say never to 'Beam me up'. We can always dream.

Sticking with the tangent, I am of the firm belief that we are on a "bubble" in science, and pretty soon some discoveries are going to burst that bubble and some really crazy sh*t is gonna happen at a rate we've never seen before. The iPhone is but an example of this movement. :tounge:

Being a teenager, I would love to use the video chat. I love things like that. I don't have any white lies to tell (about being somewohere anyway...) and my friends and I always like to take pics of us so a front facing camera would make it so much easier. Plus it would make a good mirror :tounge:
Hopefully I will be able to say "beam me up" someday. If not, my kids most likely will.

I rarely ever iChat Video and I think I would use a video feature on the phone even less. It just seems not that important when there are other things we have been asking for now for months (18+ now).
