Man I am getting sick and tired of reading stuff like this. It's too much to even wrap one's head around how these fools are behaving like this right now...

It's just disgusting that they can get away with this. What happened to holding any of these low-lifes accountable?

Whoever makes a purchase decision like this should be immediately fired - and preferably publicly drawn and quartered afterwards ...

I've noticed publiclynching.com is available. I sense a business opportunity. The American people are quite eager to hear about these kinds of excesses, and boy oh boy are there a lot out there to reveal!

I would LOVE a site like that...

this is the way these people live. they see nothing wrong with it because they have the "entitlement" attitude. they think they have put their time in and deserve it. this isn't the first time someone high ranking in a company abused money, nor will it be the last. i have faith that something will be done, but i wouldn't hold my breath. if you really have an issue with it, write letters to your senators and congressmen(women). make it general and give it to your friends to send as well. if they get enough they will probably still ignore it, but at least they will have to decide to ignore it. just the way it is i guess, do something about it or stfu :)

Why should we be surprised? Is this not the American Dream - for the rich to get away with anything, including reparations for poor decisions?

Let's look at GM - for years they fought the govt's attempt to raise CAFE standards. They saw consumer demand in low fuel efficient SUVs. A little pain and suffering brought upon by speculator's in the oil markets, and GM runs to the govt with its tail between its legs.

The rich take care of themselves. At everyone else's expense.

Eragon & Pepe - lots of good points there. It absolutely isn't a brand new brand of behaviour, and won't be the last time - agreed - but it must rank amongst the worst times to do these things, amongst the times when you bring the utmost disgrace upon yourself and your organization by doing them.

And Pepe, I completely agree that it's not good to just moan and groan about it, that we all need to vent our frustration in ways that at least have a chance of having some impact. I will be looking for where is the most effective place to do that ...

i agree with you patrick that it isn't the best time for these people to be doing these things, but these people also have millions of dollars so they aren't really feeling the "crunch" right now. to them its like when we turn on cnn and see 180 people killed in some middle eastern country. sure it sucks, but how many of us do anything other than read it and think to ourselves "wow that is awful", and then carry on with our daily activities. these people have really no concern for the general population, and with all crimes or immoral things, people doing them never do them with the presumption they are going to get caught.

I heard they purchased the plane before the economy was like this, and that they are being investigated to see if they used any of the bailout money.

maybe they'll be forced to cut the budget on a quality pilot, and they'll all crash n burn.

Looks like their plans on buying a 50 million dollar plane were scrapped because people were paying attention.

The New York Times kicks off its business coverage today with some numbers that are hard to swallow. New York's financial institutions paid out a gaudy $18.4 billion in bonuses in 2008 (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/29/business/29bonus.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss), "the sixth-largest haul on record," it reports.

this (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/01/28/eveningnews/main4761136.shtml) was on the news last night, and i immediately thought of this thread.

"A private jet is an American CEO's perk.

But not the CEO of Japan Airlines. He comes to work on the city bus..."

A day after Macy’s executives announced lay-offs of 7,000 workers and cut a dividend in half, top company officials received a final installment on $1.39 million in performance bonuses from 2004.

America has completely lost the point of the bonus. Do we not understand what they are given for anymore??
