Hi guys, i will be buying an iphone 3g later on today and want to use my UK Vodafone simcard instead of o2. I've been looking around for the last couple of days to find a software which can unlock my iphone but I cannot trust any website unless I can hear reviews about them from someone else.
Now, could you please tell me what is the best way to unlock (and jailbreak) my iphone so everything works perfectly. I also want the iphone to be upgradeable by itunes if new firmware comes out.

if any of you know a software which can do this please help me.

also, i've seen the sim card adapter which now works on 2.2 i think, has any of you used those adapters and do they work properly?

thank you in advance :)

Ive got a vodafone sim in my iPhone 3g and it works fine.

The software which I used is called "yellowsn0w", have a look on this site for information about it (theres plenty of it)

Again to jailbreak have a read of this site of how to do it, its dead easy!

it wont make a difference I've tested my phone with an 02 and Voda PAYG sim and both work fine. If you jailbreak your iPhone, you cannot update the software otherwise your iPhone will become un-jailbroken. Once jailbroken you can sync music/apps etc onto/off your iPhone.

Download Cydia>apt9.yellowsn0w.com(source address) and you will find the software under "utilites"

My plan is to take out a pay-monthly contract with O2 for use in the UK, but to unlock the phone so that I can use other SIM cards when traveling in other countries. I was thinking of using the ZiPhone software.

All comments on whether this is a god plan or not are welcome.

Have you considered buying an iPhone Pay As you Go? I think an iPhone 3g on 02 is approx £350. For me it would be better value to spend £350 in one go rather than £40 ( a guess of the price for line rental) a month for a contract. Considering you only want an iPhone so you can unlock it. Seems expensive for have an Iphone contract when you are not going to be using it?

I've done it the other way around to what your considering. I brought an iPhone 3g for £350 but use my contract sim in my PAYG iPhone. The PAYG sim that came with my PAYG iPhone I have sold on :2cool:

Thats more opinion anyways...

That's a good thought, although I would be happy to use the O2 contract while in the UK, especially with network features like visual voicemail. It's only when I go abroad that I want to be able to use another network.

Thanks,

Steven

I won't unless I can be sure I can use with my O2 contract and with any other network when I'm abroad.

But I'll let you know.
