I just saw in Cydia an app released today called Clippy.

It is basically a decent copy/paste. It will add copy and paste icons to the keyboard, and the selection tool (hold down the screen in a text field) will allow you to slide across text to select it. You can then hit Copy, and it will do that.

Go to another app, and in a text field, hit the Paste button, and voila!

It's pretty cool, if you don't mind the limitation of only copying a text enter field (since the functionality is added to the virtual keyboard.) I even tried it with a Safari URL and it worked

This is awesome! So it works in ANY app that allows you to enter text?

It doesn't seem to like the text entering field in Safari (for instance, posting on this page). But the address bar works fine.

Looks promising, it would be nice to be able to clear the text field that contains the copied text.

You can. Just select "copy" when nothing is highlighted and it will clear it out.

As cool as this app was, it's now 100x better with the 'stacks' update. You can now paste anything in your history. You can also double-tap a SMS message to copy it. Wow.

^^^Yes, just found that out. Double-tapping sms' is soooo great. I've had several texts in the past two days that I wanted to forward to others, but couldn't figure out how. Piece of cake now.

Can you double tap text in a webpage to copy that text?

No.. double click in Safari still zooms/scales.

Ah. Well copying text out of Safari is a lot more important to me than copying text out of SMS (I can use biteSMS forwarding for that).

Props to the Clippy creator though. Much respect, hClipboard is just better since it copies websites.

I like the fact that these two apps came out within a few days of each other -- the many updates make each one better.

Any issues if clippy and hclipboard are both installed? i.e. do they conflict with each other in any way?

Thanks

Agreed with Napolean. I had both installed (before upgrading to 2.2.1) and worked fine.

I am deciding which to use with the 2.2.1 jailbreak. I'm leaning toward hclipboard, since I didn't really like having copy/paste/stack always on the 123.. keyboard.. kept getting in the way.

You can do that now with the latest version of Clippy. Just double-tap on the text message.

With the latest Clippy, it does give you the ability to not block any text. It also allows you to have multiple items in the clipboard. I now recommend Clippy.

Clippy should already be available in Cydia without you having to do anything. Did you search for it (in Cydia)?

Clippy comes from the iSpazio source so make sure you have that source installed.
