3g with v1 data plan?

sorry if this has been asked before (did a quick search but didnt find anything), but was wondering if its possible to get a 3g the regular $20 data plan. i dont think i care about the 3g as much as the other stuff. and also if i can get it without signing up for another 2 year plan.

True. AT&T monitors what phone you are using by tracking the IMEI number that every phone has. To test this, I took the sim out of my Blackberry and used it in my 3G iPhone. I made a call on the iPhone, then logged into the AT&T website. For the BlackBerry number, it now showed the phone as being an iPhone.

I went to work and by the end of the night, I had gotten an SMS warning from AT&T to please call and switch the plan to an AT&T 3G iPhone plan to avoid further charges.

The iPhone is the only phone offered by AT&T that has a warning that if you are using another phones plan with the 3G iPhone, that they can switch plans with little or no warning. You agreed to this when you signed up the phone, you know, that little warning that nobody reads?

well, I decided to go ahead and get the 3g anyways. and I have to say, it's really great! sure, it's switches between 3g and edge slot but it's still pretty good.
