I was expecting the announcement on MacWorld for the iPhone 32 Gb, but was dissapointed that it didnt happen. How long you guys think it may take for them to release it? by the Spring, Summer, end of '09?

Nothing definite has been announced. 32 GB does seem like one of the more likely upgrades. I would expect to see the next iPhone refresh in June during WWDC.

I'm thinking that we can expect a 32 GB announcement and possibly a release this summer. Then again that might just be hopeful thinking.

I was convinced that there would be a memory bump in time for the holidays, so I won't presume to predict anything now. Clearly, I know nothing.

one question, why we need iphone 32g?
and there's no evidence that apple will release 32g, but iphone nano should exist here.

For people like me who use this phone as their truly all-in-one device. I'd love to have 32GB to carry more music with me. Its nice to have one device that does everything. If I wanted to carry an iPod with my phone, I'd have an iPod and a regular cell phone.
I've been longing for more capacity too and back in the days when I used an iPod I always upgraded to get more capacity, however, it's never enough.
An alternative is an app I've been beta testing which has just been submitted to the appstore. It makes your iTunes available on your iPhone - just as it is on the desktop - playlists, smart playlists, Genius, movies, radio etc. Your entire library to carry around in tact.
Obviously a connection is required but it just works seemlessly.
I won't mention the apps name for fear of someone shouting SPAM, but look out for it (assuming it gets approval).

I say they aren't going to release a 32GB one, but a V3 (new iPhone). I am eagerly waiting for the iPhone Nano too, it seems like a nice choice, let's just hope they added the missing features in it.

I have been using Simplify Media... which offers some of what you mentioned. Have you tried it and how does the "unnamed" app compare?

Simplify Media does work quite well but I don't always remember to leave my home computer turned on, so I end up disappointed. It is of course my fault though.

Im not sure why people thought that 32gb would be announced at MacWorld, let alone before Christmas.
Last years upgrade was not until Mid February. Also, this time around there is a space problem that they didnt have with 16g. Unlike the touch that has two slots the iphone only has one slot so it has to have a 32g chip not 2-16s like the touch. 32g were not very cheap last year so it wasnt really viable.

I've used Simplify Media too and it is good, but not as much functionality and Simplify Media allows you to play from your music directory rather than play your iTunes library, which is a big difference.
The newly submitted app should be thought of as similar to iTunes remote except that the content is streamed to your iPhone rather than played locally on your PC/Mac.
All of your playlists, Smartlists, Genius lists are there. And you can rate tacks and have the rating appear in iTunes.
It's also a great radio player with search, location based search, favourites etc.
Posts to Twitter of Listening now, Last FM, Seeqpod, email, browse while listening, lyrics, find similar, find cheapest purchase for radio track etc, etc,.
Also does movies.
Pretty much has it all covered.
If there's anything you think is missing I'll pass it on to the developer, though it's probably already in there and I've forgotten to mention it.

back here. and one friend told me that those hi-def musics and videos take a lot sapces, so if you're hd addict, 32g is better. but i don't think apple will release such device soon.

Last year, the iPhone got the memory upgrade on February 5, the first Tuesday in the month. It was not announced but it was avialable in the stores on that day. I got a 16GB at AT&T that same day.
This time, I think it will likely be a new model iPhone released that will also have more memory. In the current model, there is no way to put two 16GB chips in there like what the iPod Touch has. Probably summer I am thinking.

Will it be free? Or are you going to charge for it?

It's not my app, I was just beta testing it.
I doubt it will be free though.

In 2009, there is no justifiable reason for not having > 30GB storage available on any audio+video device, phone or otherwise. As it is, my 4 year old Archos that does A/V recording, playback, touch screen, web, and email is abysmally cramped at 30 GB and here's this "technological" iPhone maxed out at 16GB. I want to get one and have my phone and media in one device but 16GB is just retarded. 8GB is an outright joke. Am I supposed to use just one feature like music? That's counterintuitive. Apple: Yes - Mythbusters proved you CAN polish s**t - but that doesn't make it worth buying.
Break the 30GB barrier or forget it. Nobody seriously using these devices for what they can do actually thinks 16GB is sufficient.

Sorry, I respectfully think you're wrong. I SERIOUSLY use my iPhone for all sorts of things, all the time. I use it for running my own company, and for all my communication needs, as well as having a lot of music and tv episodes on it for my spare time. The number of phones sold clearly shows that a lot of other folks use them also.
While I can certainly see your need for more, I disagree that it's "Retarded", "a joke" or "s**t". It does exactly what I'd hoped it would, and more. Your complaining about it is silly - it's like picking up a stapler and being angry that it's not a pencil sharpener. What the iPhone is, and the machine you want - it sounds like they're just two different things. If it's not what you need - get something else.
Maybe you'll get lucky, and eventually they'll come out with a version that combines those two things.
Sounds good. What about cover art? That is something that I do not think shows up on Simplify Media.

The developer has now submitted the app and is awaiting approval.
It is called ooTunes. There are some details at the ooTunes server (http://www.ootunes.com) website.

The 32Gb (or maybe 64GB) will be announced about one year after the 3G - that's July.

That's pretty much when my current contract ends. Would be a great time to switch to iPhone. 64GB would be ideal...but 32GB if def a minimum for me. I'm curious how many hold-outs like me there are for a no-compromise storage capacity in an iPhone.

Ummm name a phone right now that has 30plus gig storage?
None that I know of.
Secondly there is a reason that the iphone has only 16 gig, it only has space for one chip. So at the time there was no 32 gig chip (well affordable one). The touch has room for two chips and runs two 16's
Now that the pricing has come down on memory we can hope for a 32 gig iphone, but you will not see a 64 gig version this year unless a new iphone is released that can handle two chips.

Any and all capacities represent compromise. I have a 2TB storage server at home and that is a compromise... with an app like Simplify Media... those 2TB are available on my iPhone... but still even that is a compromise (albeit smaller). There is no limit... and your 30GB would not add any significant benefit over my 16GB... or even 8GB. My entire media collection would not fit in any of them. Getting an app like SM breaks that limitation. I am really hopeful that ootunes gets approved and becomes available. Then I would instantly have a >2TB iPhone... except when I am on an airplane... in which case I would be forced to live with my meager 160GB iPod.

Yes...any size would be a compromise to some degree. I clearly can't have a big selection of movies even with 32GB...but I could have some videos, some pictures, and what I personally feel is a healthy, wide selection of music. For me, 16GB just doesn't allow this. So I either have to limit my music selection or not have certain media types accounted for. To me this takes away the big selling point of the iPhone over other phones - it's media capability. I do admit, a streaming setup where I could pull from my server at home and then maybe have 100s of videos to choose from while out and about would be awesome and would solve a lot of the space issues. Though with that option, I would still have to say 16GB is a minimum still, as I would want to still have a solid music collection that didn't require the transmitter to be running.
To address a previous nit-picker of one of my posts - I am not aware of a phone with this kind of storage - but that's not the point. The iPhone bills itself as revolutionary yet does not deliver the storage necessary for phasing out the other devices it supposedly can replace. This is why the iPhone has to be the storage leader and break into the 30GB+ range.
And, as far as chip count, I see no reason Apple couldn't have supplied either a CF or SD slot for extending the 16GB as a user sees fit. While expensive, 16 GB CF is viable. On the same note, I don't see why they couldn't just make it bigger to accomodate another chip.
Personally, I don't see where I'm being unreasonable. Even when 10GB was quite good for an MP3 player/recorder I installed a 60GB drive in a portable device. This turned out to be overkill, but 16 GB very fillable for a full selection of music with very little other media. Everyone can question or critique me, but as soon as someone sells a 32GB "phone + media player" you will see that there is quite a market demand. I am not the only person alive with a healthy like of multiple genres of music and a desire to keep a full gamut of music on a device at any given time. If I was, there wouldn't be 120GB iPods on the shelf at local stores. If I am wrong, then explain the 120GB iPod.

I'm not waiting for a 32GB iPhone. I'm waiting for a 160GB iPhone :D. I just don't really see why they couldn't just pop in a hard drive. I can care less if it's thick, just as long as it has a lot of space.

Wanting a 30+GB iphone is certainly your prerogative, and i won't disagree that it would be beneficial to us users to have a memory expansion slot, but that is just not how apple does things. They want you to upgrade the whole unit if you want more storage.
120GB iPods exist because they're cheap to make with Hard Disk Drives. Some would suggest putting a HDD into an iphone, but that would be a terrible idea due to the huge failure rate of HDDs in portable devices. I don't know about you, but i wouldn't want my phone dependent on one of those contraptions.
And while different people have different uses, i consider myself hooked on music, and find 8GB to hold plenty to get me through a day or two... even with a few high-quality TV episodes or movies stored. If i get tired of the music on it, i resync later that night. And when even that fails me, there are streaming options like Orb, or radio apps like Pandora Radio and Last.fm.

You dont want an iphone then, whether its right or wrong there will be no SD slots in any apple portable product, its just not going to happen.
I agree with you, I want more space as well, my 16 gig is way past full.
I will reiterate what another poster stated, sure you could even have a 250gig ipod/iphone with an HDD, name one person that would like to have their phone run off an HDD? Not me thats for sure.
We will get 32g soon, and still will be the only one on the market with that capability. Technology moves pretty fast I am sure we will have 64 and 80g soon but it takes some time. Prices will drop and things will happen.

I went for the iPhone because I was already using a smartphone, but this one served my needs for such a phone much more capably. That having been said, I look forward to a point where there's enough storage that I can fit all my music on it, and ditch my separate iPod as well.
