View Full Version : Pandora - Screen Lock
Does anyone know if Pandora plans to include an over ride option for the screen lock like some other applications do?
I have been keeping my iPhone set to a 1 minute screen lock... but that means that I need to go into settings and change it to "never" whenever I want to use Pandora (which is several times each day). As a work around... I have just kept my setting to "never" and I manually shut off the iphone each time I use it... but I know I am going to forget and run down my battery one of these days.
Background... I generally use Pandora docked and attached to a Bose Wave radio alarm clock.
An even better solution is if Apple provided a system wide screen lock option based on the docked status. I have looked... but have not found one.

Are you asked about the controls, or if it will play when the screen is "asleep"/locked?
It will play like the iPod function does, but to change songs or pause the music, you need to wake it.

you dont need to change the auto-lock to never to keep pandora running. it will keep playing when the phone is locked.

My phone doesnt lock when its docked in my car playing music. I dont use pandora in the car so I dont know if it will lock when its docked.

When connected to a power source and playing music, the phone doesn't lock. It dims, but doesn't lock.
With Pandora, it does lock not matter what, but the tune keep on coming~

That is correct... Pandora will lock and it will continue to play music. The issue is that when I have it docked there are a few reasons why it is useful to have it stay unlocked with the display on:
1) View album name, artist, & song title
2) View the cover art
3) Vote (thumbs up/down) to make the app more intelligent of your music tastes
4) Pause music
It would be nice is Pandora had an option to override the system lock timeout like some other applications do.

If you're Jailbroken, get Backgrounder from Cydia. It allows you to run apps in the background. I use it everyday to listen to Pandora while I check email, browse the web, text, etc.
Just don't run to many app's in the background. They will shutdown unexpectedly when the iPhone runs out of application memory.

Thanks, but I do not want to jailbreak at this time.
Currently... I turn off the auto screen lock, start Pandora, and dock. It would be nice to omit the first step. My fear is that I grab my phone and run without re-enabling the screen lock... and end up with a dead battery.

i personally hate the screen lock. if i have the screen on, i want it to stay on... i'll turn it off when i want it off. I guess it's a habit, because i do the same thing with my computers.

Talking of Pandora, even though I in the USA my apple account is UK based. (I moved here two years ago). Because of this I can't download the Pandora Application.
Is there a way round this?

Well I guess that's the best/only solution. Just got to be aware of locking it manually.

I have been trying the same thing... but it requires a behavioral "relearning". I have caught myself forgetting to shut off my iPhone... but so far I have not done it for a long period of time. Hence... for now, I still prefer Pandora to provide the screen lock override like some other applications.

I wish there was an option longer than a minute for auto screen lock. I usually do hit the button to lock it but there are sometimes where I want to keep it on in my pocket and eventually have it lock by itself or something. Maybe a 3 minute option would be good.

On mine, the options are (in minutes): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Never
