View Full Version : "other" on memory taking up 350 space???

hey all! i have no music ....one ringtone....few pictures...no movies....a few apps and i have 350mb taking up my "other" space on my iphone!! phone is jailbroken....what is this space being occupied by??? im just trying to free up as much as possible and want to know whats occupying that valuable space and if its normal?

My 3g has 580.2 mb of other i have alot of music pics apps video podcasts and videos. Not sure what it is but would like to know.

i read somewhere else thats the email storage? is that true? i looked into my cydia packages area and i see that firmware is located in there....should that be in there?

Yes - all these apps on the iPhone store user files, and also these I mention above.

It also seems to be reserved as some kind of dynamic paging file. It's basically a bunch of stuff the OS needs to run smoothly. 350MB is not out of the ordinary.
Anyway, if you don't have any music or videos why are you trying to freeas much space as possible? Apps and ringtones don't take up that much.

well i just wanted to know what was occupying the space and if was necessary or junk that could be deleted. I will be storing music and movies on my next sync and well...350mb is space is valuable as we all know how fast u can run out of memory with a few movies and music :) plus i wanted to make sure it wasnt taking up the os memory as cydia says its occupying that space and not the hd storage space.

Sure if you got an 8GB version - the 16GB is another case.

You can use "boss tools" to free up space on the OS partition.

Wrong! - it's just move some files...it won't free up some space! that's what he's after.. :2cool:

No, this "fix" only allow you/or your iPhone to read/write in the iPhones folders.

Not wrong. He mentioned cydia telling him he was running outnof space on his OS partition (it is separate from the main storage area shown in iTunes). This is what bosstools will help free up space for.
