Do we really need that BIG black plastic HOME button at the front?
...why not place it in the top on the right side? That way we'll have much more screen to play with, and more entertainment in games or movies!
I also think it's more easy to hit that button in the top, rather than in the front!?
I have made this iPhone 3G version 3.0:

mmmmmm.... nah, i think the iphone's screen is fine just the way it is, and that pic looks pretty awkward.... i think id kinda rather like a scroll wheel where the home button is like on the blackberry or the g1. that would be pretty cool

1. I did that picture in 5 minutes...just an illustration.
2. Scroll wheel...don't you like the touch screen?

i think the iphone 3g is fine way it is. plus if it was like ur illustration, there would be nowhere to place ur thumbs while watching a video

Not to mention the extra battery juice required to power the extra screen real estate.

Agreed. That the last thing people need, a shorter lasting battery!

I like the bigger screen but I also like the home button where it is at right now. Placing it somewhere else will just make it more difficult to operate with a single hand. I'll take the home button on top though before I'd want one of those poorly designed unworkable scroll wheels though!

Sorry, this is a terrible idea. Fix what's on the inside before you think about moving the home button to an awkward space.

Idk about the slider, but the larger screen still centered with the home button in the normal spot looks awesome!

I'll guess Apple could add some more display without moving the Home button...also some in the top.

ah, well guess not. just trying to say they should improve the home button, not remove it (macbook mouse button?)
and still. i kinda like the screen the way it is. really dont think it needs anything modified.
besides, apple would NEVER go for it

I don't mind the layout of the iPhone, but I would like a stronger home button. My button is way looser than it was originally, and I would appreciate one that doesn't degrade as fast as mine did.

Am I the only one that finds it amusing when people make these "ELITE" pics with a slide out keyboard. Indicating that they think this would be a step forward and not the obvious step backward? Why not put a rotary dialer on it?! Or a cord! Heck Why not make it analog? We could even just use morse code instead of texting. Idiots...

10-0 to you for that one!! We don't need to go back -> only forward!

Would a slider with a virtual keyboard in landscape be a step forward? ;)

He gave him those points because hayes pointed out that it would be a step backward...
but that elite version would actually be my dream phone! i loooooove slider phones (landscape) and the touch screen makes it even better!
What you guys dont realize is that that extra screen doesnt have to be used just for the keyboard, it could be used as an extra screen to do anything!

I get what Savs is saying. But I'm opposed to sliders all together. There's wasted space on the sliding mechanism and the back housing of the top half and the top housing of the bottom half. Granted it may only be a few millimeters, but darn it, when it comes to technology it might as well be a mile!

I like the iphone the way it is now externally. Maybe adding theweb camera capability. But internally: video capability, horizontal texting, and maybe fixing some bugs before messing with the outer apperance.
