Hi all!

I will try to keep this short. I am a PC. LOL I have 6 laptops and 2 desktops in my house. All used for something. I have been using a computer (well lets say quite some time) My first was A Commodore 64.

Now my daughter shows up at the house with her old Mac Mini, says just plug it in your KVM and try it out.

Sure it turned on fast but, well ya is fast online but, alright you get the point.

I stll have lots! to learn. But now I want a laptop.

What should start with?
Should I get a used one?
If I go used how fast?

I looked on ebay (again I DON'T KNOW MAC CRAP) Looks like you can get a macbook pro 15 like a 2006 for $800 to $1000.

Any help would be great!

Thanks,
iZiL

PS Now my website mr4.us looks like crap on the Mac, Great.

I'd recommend going for the entry level MacBook. You get great performance and the looks of the more expensive MacBook Pro. I'd opt for that over an older MacBook. Of course, this puts you at $1299. I'd check Apple for refurbs and you can save a few bucks. You'd have to check on the warranty on those.

On the new MacBook's, you have a year to buy the extended Apple Care. For laptops, I'd recommend it, but you can get them cheaper than from Apple. For some reason, Amazon comes to mind. I bought early-2008 MacBook in June and will get Apple Care before June.

BTW, I bought the MacBook unibody for my wife. Just an awesome laptop.

With eBay, you never know what's happened to the laptop. Sure it could work great, but I don't know if I'd spend that amount on a used laptop. That being said, I sold my old PowerBook on Craigslist. I babied it, so the guy got a very good deal. Not everyone treats their computers the same --- some relatives of mine are perfect examples! I almost want to rescue some of those computers from cruel and unusual punishment.

Too funny! I can't sell any of my old stuff. We them as long as we can. I have 2 old laptops (2 year old) and I could not get but $100 to $150 for them. I just could not do it so I gave them to friends kids who could use them.

I am looking at the Apple site now to get this thing started.
Thanks for all your help, not just with this but everthing you have helped me.

Thanks again,
iZiL

oh no! once you get the apple fever and want a new macbook it will eventualy win and take over. I bought a new 2.4 aluminum Macbook and this thing is amazing. I would not trade it for any PC laptop. I have went through many pc laptops and they just seem to stop working. I guess this will be my test if this one continues to last longer than my previous ones I will be very happy. I would personally buy new because that is a lot of money for something that could have underlying problems.

Refurbished deals on Apple are great, I have a refurbished Macbook Pro and it's the best computer I have ever owned. Good Luck!

Also - you could use your daughter to get a student discount. :) I agree with what Chris said - start off w/an entry level Macbook. I started off with an iMac, and I loved that. Once you go Mac, you never... well you get the idea.

True, MacBook is the best choice for a newbie Mac user. It's light, small, user friendly, and does pretty much everything the MacBook Pro does.

Good luck buying a new Mac laptop, you'll love them. Have a nice day.

PS: You don't have to buy the new Aluminum MacBook products, but go for the older ones, they are the exact same in everything except the keyboard (which is black in the new ones) and the screen lid (which is also black in the new ones). But you know, you'll save some good green.

The trackpads are different, and so is the ability to mulitgesture. Also, on the nicer MB's the keyboard is backlit.

they also got a good boost to the graphics card.

The new MBs also lack the button for the trackpad as the trackpad IS the button. I'm not a fan personally.

I wasn't a fan at first but once you set it up I really enjoy using it. It works just like the iPhone. You cab scroll, zoom, rotate, and select all without pushing the button. I personaly don't ever push the button down I just use the one touch select option.

That's just like my MacBook Pro. What made it really easy for me to do all that in the iPhone is my MBP.
