After purchasing an application and later deleted from iPhone, do I have to re-purchase this application?

No.

It can be confusing when you go do download it again because you will have to hit the "buy" button, then "install"... but once you enter you iTunes password and it goes to install, it will say "you have already downloaded this. To download again for free press accept" or something to that effect.

And remember to keep those emails that come in that are your receipts from Apple on what you purchased. Just in case you have to prove you bought it before.

My roommate has a V1 that is out of the standard warranty, but he spent the 79 for Apple Care and should have till next December for Hardware support. When we looked up his serial number ( the phone is acting very very buggy) for warranty status, it did not show his Apple Care. now he has to prove that he has it, and he's not sure that he can find the receipt.

Just to make 100% certain ... if you buy the app directly from your iPhone, make sure you eventually sync iPhone to iTunes so the app gets stored on iTunes ... then delete off your phone, but you still have a copy stored in iTunes. I do this very often ... allows me to get many apps (taking advantage of price drops and such) and store/archive them off my phone.

What if the app goes through an update and/or price change? Can you still re-install it?

Yes - for sure ... I have many apps that were free, then went up in price and re-install was not a problem

You don't have to though. As stated above, once you bought the app on your account (even with your iphone), you can continue to delete it and re-download it as many times as you want. The app is linked to your account. You can click "buy" in iTunes after already buying it on your phone and it will just download it for free.

It'd be nice if that worked for music and video.

So I'm guessing it would be the same if you reformatted your computer? You just download iTunes again, and download the apps you've already paid for, without paying again?

Yes you can. You still have the same itunes account so nothing has really changed in that regard.
